Checking in after a good solid round of inactivity (for a few years, heh). It's been a while. It feels good to come back and see you all! I've been around on the Discord for a few days, but I haven't really posted an update on my life or anything... And I'm sure some folks here forgot some details about me, which is perfectly reasonable. u.u I borrowed my re-introduction from GSAR, but I tweaked it here. Anyway: I'm Patsy, or Patricia. I'm currently studying in university (still, had some life stuff where I left for mental health/financial reasons, then transferred to another uni about two years later), working on a double major in History and Judaic (Jewish) Studies and a minor in Black Studies. I like reading, research, sleeping, my plants, and strawberries. My favorite animal at the moment is a hedgehog, I love the color red, Neon Genesis Evangelion is one of my favorite anime, I like my coffee bitter enough to cut rope, and I love Akita dogs! I finished my conversion to Judaism earlier this year. I know some Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, and Hebrew. But I can't really do a whole lot with these languages, unfortunately...I do part-time work at the local courthouse, doing data-entry and filing of court documents as well as clerking for small claims and landlord/tenant courts. I am also currently an intern at the local Jewish museum/center for Holocaust education, helping with cataloging for the archives as well as organizing the soon-to-be public research library so it can FINALLY open! I'm also their paid gallery attendant for the weekends, and I'm hoping to get their Education Coordinator job, too. I eventually want to work in public history as an archivist or some kind of educator, making sure the public can have access to education to the history of discrimination and, more importantly, have the tools and resources to resist and create a better society! But I'm also considering going into law... I also volunteer with my university's Queer Resource Center with easy things like event help, running the community space, and speaking on panels, but I might be working there next year. I'm bisexual/queer (pansexual works fine for me, but I use bisexual for political reasons) and genderqueer...? The latter is something I'm still working out on my end. In terms of how I'm actually doing, I'm doing alright. Therapy helped A LOT, and being away from my family has helped even more. Even though my schedule's stressful, I feel like my efforts are worth something. I also have a lot of friends and people that believe in me, and I've been able to appreciate that more and more each day. <3 I need to work harder, and that impulse has mostly driven me offline... Anyway, feel free to ask questions, make comments, or just give me a good meme or two. I always need one! |

Don't know if I've seen you before, if not - hi! If we have talked before - hi again! Also, damn, someone's being productive with their life. Glad to hear you've gotten through mental problems. Of course, it sucks that it happens in the first place but hey, it seems to be way to common these days. You seem very...in lack of a better word, multicultural? Where are you from originaly if I may ask? Family history, ethnicity etc? Did you have any specific reason for converting to judaism and your obvious interest in jewish history? |

Hey Patsy! Good to see you again, and wow, that's definitely an impressive resume! I'm glad your life is going places, and it's nice to see you're really making a difference. =) That was a lot that I didn't know about you, either. xD Always cool to see appreciators of bitter coffee. I'd like to be one of those people, but Turkish coffee aside, I can't get to that point yet. >.> I want to be a plant person, too! Just having something in my care would be nice, and I do really like flowers... Aaaah working harder @___@ |

Hey! Glad to see you around again, it's always nice when our missing friends come back to us. I hope you're happy with your conversion! Might I ask what motivated it? All in all, it sounds like you're doing well and are happy with the turns your life has taken, for which I am actually really glad!

Oh, I remember you. Hi. Cool that your life seems to be working out so well, especially if you were in a rough patch earlier. |

Thank you all for responding back! <3 It feels good to be back.
These two are kinda joined together, so I'll take them both. I'm ethnically Japanese, some kind of southeast Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Portuguese. I was born on Maui, HI. My dad's side of the family is all along the Hawaiian islands and even further out there in the ocean. My mom's side of the family is all from Japan. Her side of the family is mostly Buddhist, dad's side of the family is mostly Catholic, but my dad is very much an agnostic-atheist. I feel like my answer will be kinda glib and shallow because it spans over several years, and talking about my experiences would probably be enough for an actual essay... Ultimately, it felt like coming home to me. I enjoy studying Torah and the rich traditions (from across space and time!), the rituals and the calendar, the diverse ways that Jews understand God, and developing a partnership with God in repairing the world. I also like how I can challenge God, which is something I feel like I've been doing since I was 13, haha. I converted with a Reform rabbi, but I feel pretty comfortable with Conservative services, too. |

This all sounds very interesting so I wouldn't mind an essay about your life
