Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

I have O negative blood. I'm a universal donor.

I also hate needles and vehemently refuse to give blood for entirely personal reasons
(also the red cross has yet to remove that extremely homophobic question on their list)

Is someone with valuable blood morally obligated to give?

My mother is O negative, though I've never been typed, so I'm unknown. I, too, hate needles, but it's not so bad when blood is drawn....injections are another story as I freak the [radio edit] out over it.

I've never given blood, been thinking about it, though. I'd do it sometime when I could be weaker than normal, in my current stituation with a dependency on physical activity, it's probably not the best idea.

Do you dislike having your finger pricked or actual shots more? Red cross does a prick while they are screening you before drawing the blood. Both of them hurt less than a bee sting. This is coming from someone who is vehemently afraid of bees and formerly afraid of needles.

I'm A+ and have donated about ten times since high school. For me, the best part is watching the blood slowly flow out of you with each squeeze of the little heart they give you. Take your anger out on the heart. Let the hatred flow through you Lemu. The harder and faster you squeeze the faster you will be done.

If you don't want to get poked by needles, you don't have to be.

It's not a question of moral obligation, it's a question of what you want done to your body. (which is probably terrible phrasing but whatever)

Your blood type and the qualities of it shouldn't come up in normal conversation anyway, and if some medical technician tries to morally shitpost you about your refusal to donate remind them it's still called "donation" not "mandatory offering to the blood god."

You're not morally obligated to do it, but it's a nice thing to do if you can.

Also, don't you get paid to donate blood in the States?

I misread this and thought '...They encourage you to make your heart beat faster to get the blood out sooner?'

Thanks Poui.

Not that I know of, Nell. Though iirc there are payments for donating other things, likebone marrow or whatever.

Death comes to all of those who oppose me.

Are you obligated to give no, but personally I think almost everyone should suck it up and give blood.

They used to offer tax exemptions to people who gave blood but they stopped bc "it attracted unsavory people with undesirable blood"

The only time I've ever heard of this is for O negative blood, and even then that's rare. I think money for plasma is more common.

Your body, your choice.

I gave blood once and I was glad to have done it. But it was very uncomfortable as I have an irrational discomfort/fear not of blood or of needles, but of veins themselves and the idea of blood flowing. To the point where I can't touch or look at my own wrists because of the very visible veins there. It was uncomfortable but made up for by the fact that I got free snacks and got to say I helped. I'd like to do it again someday, maybe it will help desensitize me to my wrist/vein issue.

It's that really eerie 'whoosh' feeling in your veins that gets me weirded out. Injections or IVs are much worse about it, imo.

Have you ever had a nurse put you an IV in the wrong place? It feels like your whole arm is burning from the inside.

Everyone else has already said it, but I'd like to reiterate:

You're under no moral obligation to give blood. It's nice if you can, but you're not a bad person if you can't/won't.

There are other ways to give back to the world if you really want to.

When I was in the emergency department last year, the [radio edit]ing ED doctor tried to put a cannula in my elbow and she kept missing. She was surprised; told me, "I can count the number of times I've missed a vein on one hand". Ended up getting it on the seventh try, after attempting both elbows and both hands. jfc

The argument is moot because everyone knows the only correct way to "give blood" is to spurt it out of your eyes in an attempt to distract predators.

it involves needles

only needle-related thing that should be mandatory to do is vaccination
