rofl I don't know how London can break off They might be able to swing some deal with the EU but I kind of doubt it I think Cameron was confident/overconfident that Britain would vote to Remain, and now he's like "lol [radio edit] this" and just peels |

I'm so disappointed. No enemy of the UK could have ever hoped to harm us to the extent we harmed ourselves last night. I'd much rather be 'chained' to the EU even if it isn't perfect - the repercussions of being 'free' for us are going to be far, far worse. |

Soo essentially the uninformed populace voted on a referendum that screwed over the UK and the pound's buying power. Very, very nice. Well, actually, not quite, but it actually is worrying that many people in the UK don't even realize what the EU is. I'm sure many of the search results are from students trying to make sense of the vote. |

To elaborate a little more, he was afraid that far-right groups wouldn't support him in the election if he didn't agree to hold this referendum even though he wanted to stay. He was probably fully confident that the people would choose to Remain. So I do wonder whether the parliament might choose to disregard the referendum? The referendum is not a legally binding decision. At any rate it does seem kinda crazy to me that a simple majority would be enough to prompt such a huge change, and not a 2/3 majority or something else. |

Yeah... I feel like the fact the country was more or less evenly divided on the matter and that it was so close should matter, but, egh... |

Yeah an under 5% difference deciding something this big seems insane. Funny because Farage had said that if it were the exact situation we're in but flipped (48 leave to 52 remain) he would want a second referendum |

Everything I could really say is already said. This is a disastrous result for the UK, for the EU, and it could ripple out into the world. |

Oh, yeah, no question Britain [radio edit]ed themselves royally. The pound fell like a rock off the Empire State Building, Scotland has already made rumblings about another independence vote, England's about to get hit with customs charges out the ass and various other economic punishments for whatever period lies between England leaving the EU and if they manage to get back into the Common Market, and as for the immigrant thing... well, there you're right, you won't get a lot of immigrants; they'll take one look at Farage and his ideals and go "Well [radio edit] that, I'm going somewhere where the jobs are." |

I think, in all the anti-eldery stuff being tossed about, it's also important to youth apathy as a factor - apparently areas with a higher youth population had a lower turnout, though I can't find the BBC article that linked and mapped it (it was just called "vote analysis." http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/millennial-brexit-vote-1.3650826 CBC coverage on a similar topic, mostly repeated information, but dat dank gif at the end also l o l http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/uk-eu-brexit-vote-move-to-canada-1.3651308 Edited by Saturos, Jun 24 2016, 07:35 PM.

I'm not surprised by youth apathy; our world's political systems have been so unbalanced that it's completely believable that young people would get used to the idea that their voice has no effect. |
