Final Fantasy V Four Job Fiesta is an annual online gaming event playing with the Job system of Final Fantasy V, with related charity fundraising. How do you play? If you're unfamiliar with FFV, the primary mechanic of the game is the Jobs your characters can take on after receiving them from the four Crystals of the FFV world. In much the same way as Bravely Default, you can gain new abilities and attributes by advancing in these Jobs. You can freely switch to any other job, but you can retain a skill learned from another job to mix and match abilities, whether to create a new powerful synergy, or to help cover a weakness of the new job. The job classes are all powerful, even ones that may seem bad on the surface like "Chemist" or "Bard." (Chemist in particular is actually really really good.) The twist with Four Job Fiesta is as its name suggests: you will only be able to use up to Four randomly-chosen Jobs in a Fiesta playthrough, one from each Crystal. There are four characters, and four crystals which give jobs, so it all works perfectly! In a "normal" Fiesta game you are always required to have at least one character using each assigned job at a time. You can switch freely, as long as you are only using those jobs, and always have at least one person using each of them. That sounds hard! So the nice thing about FFV is that there are lots of viable strategies for most opponents. You might THINK your Beastmaster is worthless against this boss, but actually your Capture skill (which you likely would ignore in a normal playthrough, but are using now because you basically have to) gives you access to a wide variety of powerful attacks. Additionally, unlike most other Final Fantasy games, pretty much all bosses have a weakness to at least a few Status effects (your poison, sleep, petrification, etc) and there are lots of ways to cause those in this game. Some bosses can even be beaten in seconds by Instant Death spells or skills! A third thing that helps is that lots of pieces of equipment have little-known effects which occur when you use them as an Item in battle (the same way you would a potion or ether). No White Mage in your team? Some equipment can be used to cast cure spells. Need some powerful magic? If certain classes use elemental rods as items, it will cast high level magic of that element! (More on that later.) There is a lot of potential for experimentation in the game, and every class combination is beatable with normal play, no meticulous min-maxing or super grinding necessary. Even a single Berserker with the other 3 characters dead has been able to beat the game MORE POST COMING, I'M TYPING ON PHONE AND NEEDED TO CLEAR THE PAGE Sounds fun! How do I participate? First you're gonna need to have a Twitter account. It's not hard to make one if you don't already, and if you want you can just use it for this only or whatever. Then head over to The Four Job Fiesta homepage to start. The organizer has set up a Twitter bot that assigns your jobs to you once you register. Right on the page there you can fill out the form and it will auto-fill a Twitter post for you to tweet at the bot. Once the event starts on 12:01 AM Monday (Eastern) the bot will tweet to you with your first crystal's job! Once you reach the second crystal, you'll need to tweet at the bot with the command #water to receive your next job assignment. Then at the third crystal, tweet at the bot with the #fire command, and then #earth at the final crystal. Then when you've beaten the game, you need to take a picture of your victory. Use a screenshot tool, take a picture of your screen using your phone, whatever. The boss takes a while to dissolve from the screen, that's the time you want to take the picture. Include that photo in another tweet to the bot with the command #victory and then you've won! You can register for a second play after that if you want! Looking at the website, I see a lot of options for signing up. What's up with that? In a "Normal" game you get one job each from the Wind, Water, Fire, and Earth crystals. So you'll never end up with both a Black Mage and a White Mage for example, because both jobs are from the Wind crystal, and you can get only one. But there are a number of different rule variants if you'd like to try something different with the game! --Random, which allows you to receive any job you've unlocked at each Crystal. So at the Water Crystal you could receive either a Water or Wind job, at Fire you could receive a Fire, Water, or Wind, and so on. --Chaos, which can assign even jobs you haven't unlocked yet! I think it does rearrange the order you receive them though so that you are able to assign jobs at their earliest availability (for example, if it drew Earth/Earth/Water/Wind it would rearrange them to Wind/Water/Earth/Earth so you're not stuck as Freelancers for so long). I think repeat jobs can be assigned here too. --Natural, where each character is locked to one specific job and cannot switch like normal! --Classic, a Natural run where your only available jobs are the six from the original Final Fantasy! Repeat jobs are allowed in this one. --Team750: Remember when I mentioned that some classes can use elemental rods to cast high level magic? This is commonly called "rod breaking" because it destroys the item after use. (This is a unique trait to these; other types of equipment don't break after use.) Fortunately, elemental rods are very affordable, at only 750 Gil each, hence the name "Team 750". This rule will only assign jobs that are able to break rods, plus a few that don't but still fit into a similar playstyle. Essentially a "magic-casters only" rule. --No750 is the reverse. You will only receive classes that are not able to break rods. An all-physical attackers run. Breaking rods can make many early bosses trivial so this is more of a challenge early on, but evens out later. --Upgrade is a new mode added this year. Instead of having one character use each job, ALL characters must use whatever your most-recently assigned job is! You can still use your learned skills from the previous jobs, of course. --BERSERKER RISK can only be added to a run if you register before the start of the event. For every 10 dollars of the charity goal that is raised before the event starts, a person who chose Berserker Risk will be guaranteed to receive a Berserker as a class. If enough has been raised that every person who signs up for Berserker Risk will be guaranteed one, more money will mean an additional Berserker for that set of players! This rule can supersede your normal rule set, but that's the risk when you signed up for Berserker Risk! Try to get more people to sign up to dilute that spread of Berserkers! Many of those rules can be mixed and matched, so check the main site for more information and clarifications. MORE POST COMING STILL, TOO LAZY TO FIGURE OUT A MORE EFFICIENT WAY THAN THIS The Fire job I was assigned isn't in my list! Two of those are obtained a little bit later than the rest. Just keep playing and you'll find them soon. What about the optional jobs, like Mime or the GBA jobs? That would make the boy's work a lot harder to figure out so those aren't really usable. Though there is one option . . . I just can't make it work with this job I was assigned. If you really can't make it, you can look up the Job Fair on the main website. There you can donate money to the charity and in return receive a new class. You can even pick Freelancer or Mime! Lastly, here is a very useful resource if you find yourself stuck, or wondering what kind of useful stuff your classes can do. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1MrmmtZPyCJnRL8ecIp5LOwhDnb_9FLeFQNjOzyVI-R8/mobilebasic?pli=1 Now get your jobs and have some fun! The event starts on Monday! |

Berserker's not too bad. Especially if you also got Knight, or Ninja, or really any other high-STR class. A Two-Handed or Dual-Wielding Berserker is super strong. A lot of axes are good too, and you could pass Equip Axes to other classes through Berserker. The way "Equip ____" skills work, they also pass on the pertinent stat boosts of that class, so Equip Axes also gives you the STR of a Berserker. Put that on something typically "weak" and you've got a new big damage dealer. The classes I would consider less-good (because honestly they really are all good) would be Dragoon, Geomancer, and late-game Red Mage and Thief. But with certain abilities of other classes all of those can be pretty good too. |

I recently got myself a repro cart of FFV for the SNES, so I'm in. I'll be doing a completely normal run with no restrictions. though if i dont get thief i may consider switching to the GBA version since you can't naturally dash on the original game. |

Here's a preliminary 4-way race, with the four jobs chosen by community vote: https://www.twitch.tv/rpglimitbreak They ended up with Blue Mage/Mystic Knight/Bard/Chemist, which is probably the single most broken combination. |

The fundraising goal has been reached and the race is over, so the Fiesta is starting early! The Twitter bot might be overworked right now so you might not get a Wind assignment from it on Twitter. But if you go to the website and click Players you can scroll down to find your name and what your first job assignment is. I got Blue Mage. Since I'm on an Upgrade run I need to make sure folks learn !Blue before the Water Crystal. |

I've been going at this nice and slow (just finished up the battle on the Big Bridge). Classes ended up being Black Mage, Time Mage, Bard, and Dragoon. Haven't had any major problems yet, and doubt that I ever will. |

Just unlocked Mystic Knight for second job. I approve of this development. Probably won't get level 6 and possibly level 5 !Spellblade by the Fire crystal but they aren't really necessary anyway! Though insta-kills with -aga attacks are nice. |

Ninja for job number 3. Good thing ninja blades work with !Spellblade. But without a confusion ability, Reflect spell, or !Control, getting some of the best Blue Magic spells is a challenge. I think I have to wait for Dancing Dagger before I can try for any of those. I'm considering grinding gil to buy at least one Fire Ring since my healing prospects are limited to Vampire and potions otherwise. Vampire is really good though so I may manage fine. Oh wait, forgot that there's also Drain Blade. Yeah, don't think I need the Fire Ring. |
