Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

Help me brainstorm gift ideas

So when I go back to the States, I want to show my extended family how much I appreciate their support and whatnot, and I'm trying to think of actual thoughtful gifts that will mean something and not be tacky. Also needs to be stuff that's not too expensive or hard to bring. My family is rather large (my mom has five siblings, all married, and they all have at least two kids, plus one of my cousins is married and has a (half-Japanese, actually) kid) so individual stuff seems a little daunting. I was trying to think of some kind of "experience" thing I could do. There's an (actually authentic) Japanese restaurant near my home (it's the kind of hibachi place you see in larger chains, but this is a single location run by a Japanese family, and they have more authentic offerings as well). Kinda wondering if it would be something to suggest a family dinner there. My immediate family has a pretty good rapport with the owners, so I wonder if I could see if they'd offer a minor discount for us if we bring a large party. (We'd still tip, of course, since, ugh, that's a thing in the States.) I'm at a loss for ideas that aren't just "bring a bunch of knickknacks and candies or expensive wrapped omiyage that would have to spend about two weeks before I could give it to people" and whatnot. So... Let's brainstorm?

I think the family dinner idea is really wonderful tbh.
But as trite as it may seem, never underestimate people's love for exotic boozes and candies. You can't really go wrong with it.

Maybe pick up a few bottles of umeshu and share them out at the family Fourth of July party. That way I don't have to worry about bringing one for every single family unit and there'll be more than enough. Could do some more research into non-perishable and wacky snacks! Actually the party on the Fourth would be a good time to share out things from my time here. Good idea!

Their tastes are not refined enough to appreciate Japanese illustrated artbooks of that nature.

I brought back a whole range of novelty Kit Kats for my extended family and colleagues. Downside is they took up a shitload of space in my luggage (that and all the boxed figurines that I bought).

You could do a cheap calligraphy kit if you're running low on ideas - just go to a hyaku-en store, they should have calligraphy brushes, ink, paper, etc.
