My cousin ordered this for me the other day! At least I saved $49.99 while she did that for me. Is it any good? |

So, after playing this game, here are my thoughts: 1. It is quality and quantity more than anything else. 2. The tennis courts look stunning in HD. 3. Characters in the audience and who are playable look awesome. 4. Online leaderboards are available for everyone to use.

I keep wanting to get back into the Mario Tennis games, as I freaking love Tennis. However... I just have a hard time doing so after Power Tour on GBA. That game was amazing, I loved how the story built your character up to go from okay at Tennis to Tennis God, and felt like I got more out of the game that way. Now it's just "Do this tournament, get the trophy. Hooray?" |

Mario sports game have been on the slippery slope after the Gamecube era in my opinion. Though I didn't own it, Power Tennis runs miles around the later entries. From my own rental experience, it is flawed only by the power system. Rallies usually went like this if memory serves me well: Players A and B volley Offensive power shot from A. Gets countered by Defensive shot from B. B wins the point. Above scenario is especially true if you played as Bowser Jr. |

Nah, Player A uses offensive power shot, then Player B counters with *their own* offensive power shot, which is usually a winner, because Player A is still in their post-PS delay period. And if they aren't in range to use the offensive, it automatically uses their defensive instead, so you don't even have to think about it. In some rare cases, a defensive power shot is actually better (yoshi comes to mind; his defensive power shot is obscenely strong against lobs), but that's mostly character-specific. Or at least, that's how it went down in the GCN game, where PSs were relatively balanced. In the GBA game, your offensive PS might be no stronger than your defensive PS, depending on how much you've grinded out the minigames. Personally, I would always just get the running save ability (the first PS you get) and then never go back, so my PS existed entirely for the purpose of nullifying the enemy offensive PS. Unfortunately, playing like that meant I had no way of punishing the enemy for using a defensive PS, so sometimes rallies could take several times longer than they would have normally. On the other hand, leveling control and power was broken in that game, so it didn't really matter. |
