Third/Fourth/Whatevering the Rumble Winner thing, and not just because I won the last one. They're relatively large-scale events with a defined solitary winner and it's easy enough to look up who won what ones. I'd recommend using a single icon with a listing of which ones were won by that person though, if it's possible. I think there's at least two or three people with multiple victories under their belt already? As for the Board Awards themselves, we should probably skip Best Mafia this year, as has been stated. Other personal opinions will have to wait on me having mental acuity. |

Throwing in my agreement to nix the Mafia awards for this year. We can bring them back when games are frequent again. I'm not as set on getting rid of Most Ship, but people are right that it's been less of a thing in recent years, so... I'm not sure about getting rid of Best RP or modifying it/making a Rumble-specific version though. I know that Rumble has been the only/biggest RP on Temple for at least a few years, but despite its draw, I still view it as one among many RPs, albeit one with consistent activity. I've always viewed all RPs as candidates for the award when casting my vote, regardless of how their mechanics differ or how old they are, so long as they involve actual roleplaying. Sometimes the newest crop is scant and I don't think age should be a restriction if you feel that an older or inactive RP is still superior in quality to newer, active ones. Just my two cents though. I am glad we have a few contenders aside from Rumble this year though.

Yes, that was what I was referring to. I get that it wasn't treated as a shitposting award from the outset, or necessarily by all (or even most) of the people who voted, but the awarding of it did very much come across to me as a "[radio edit] you." Or, I guess, a backhanded compliment by way of telling me I'd gone downhill and sticking a badge on my profile to commemorate it. That resentment was kind of a big contributing factor in my blowing up at the staff last year. Anyway, with the Rumble award, beyond just giving winners a badge (which I do think is a good idea too), I meant awards for things that people actually have control over. Things like your roster, or maybe a dynamic between two characters that people really enjoy, or an entertaining matchup. |

To clarify: were you upset that you received the award or at the way Satty characterised the result of the vote? There are a couple of things that I'm getting at here, but the main ones would be a) this sort of taps into the ongoing point people seem to be making about removing awards that could potentially offend people, and b) if it would be useful to have official "extra comments" fields alongside votes for each category so that whoever has to tally/announce the awards at the end of the day can have some idea of what people were actually voting for. |

The latter. I have no problem with the award itself in the first place--hell, I had made comments before about being a little bummed that I hadn't won anything yet, so it would be pretty hypocritical of me to get upset about that! But yeah, I think you're right, it ties in with the idea of awards that could be read as negative. |

We can definitely have the same icon for each one, but we could also have different ones. I'm not sure you mean by a listing, since I don't think we've had any overlap yet... Rumble 3 was HJ, Rumble 4 was Emi, Rumble 5 was Solbowz, Rumble 6 was Enro, Rumble 7 was Chrono, and you won Rumble 8. I'm not sure who won Rumble 1 and 2... But, for me, I think that's a separate thing from the Board Awards. We can also think if there are any other things we want to give permanent icons for, since I don't want to give Rumble special privilege. I do think Necare brings up a good point, since many people do have RPing experiences in many other RPs, and might not be participating in BS or in Rumble. If not, that would lock them out of the award. So it's the question of if we want to define it as "active RPs in 2015." And if so, why leave out the others that were around, but didn't go anywhere? Plus Battlefield topics, which have also been nominated for Best RP before. All in all, I think recognizing only BS and Rumble as categories for Best Roleplayer has a few flaws. What do you think, HJ? Do you see a way to get around the "not recognizing the other stuff" issue? We could split each category in two, between "Best Overall RP" and "Best Recent RP"? Though I think people have a natural bias towards what they've done recently, so... With the more specific Rumble things, Squee, I think those would be a bit too specific to one part of Rumble, rather than something that encapsulates the whole experience. And for the Board Awards, which are Temple-wide, I think it should be something that as many people as possible have a chance to win. But, that's a fantastic idea to keep in mind, and I think it would be cool to do that post-each Rumble, as a way of recognizing various cool things from that Rumble, like MVPs or so on. Squee, I wish you'd mentioned the Most Changed thing earlier. My comments for the awards definitely weren't always serious, if you look at some of the other comments. I meant it at as an affectionate jab or in the manner of a roasting. If it weren't well-meant, that is not the venue I would have used for it. My conduct towards you last year definitely wasn't always exemplary, but this wasn't intended that way. I think allowing people to include comments with their votes is a great idea! When I announce the results, it would give me a wider pool of things to draw from in order to contextualize the award. |

For my part, I'm sorry that it upset you, but I think it's unfair and irrational for you to base a complex against the staff on it when most of them had no input in how the awards were presented, or even that you were voted "Most Changed" at all. (Thus begins my campaign to win Most Fascist Mod.) |

Grim won Rumble 4 as well as Rumble 2; he's the only person to have won Rumble more than once. Would it be possible to include the same badge more than once, though? |

who tf is karasu Anyway yeah, I think having a specific post-Rumble awards thing for it would be better than wrapping it into the Board Awards. That way we can get a bunch of neat little specific things, but not subject the rest of Temple that doesn't care about them to it. You did hit the nail of "Are we only considering active RPs" though. Personally, I think we shouldn't, because that tends to drag in votes from the people who aren't involved in current RPs and are just voting out of ones they remember from the past. There's no guarantee that the current RPs are actually being compared against the old ones. Board Awards generally reflect the year of activity since the previous one, and I think having the old RPs in them distorts that. As for splitting it just between Rumble/BS, yeah, I'd not really considered the other two options for recent activity and had only really thought about them. Which, if it was simply just them, I think doing separate "Best RPer" awards would be a good idea, but as is, I think it's fine to leave them as they have been. |

Oh yeah, Grusja, my bad. I was just thinking in terms of the next location. But you're right, it was Grim. My mistake. It's definitely possible to include the same badge more than once - in order for the description to be different for each one, each badge has its own line of code anyway. Incidentally this means they could all have their own picture... *resists urge to make Rumble VII's picture Ilyasviel* Actually, it might be an idea to, where possible, have the picture be of the fighter they used to win that Rumble. That's tricky with Grusja, but I think it'd be nice for each other one. Personally I think restricting it to RPs that were active/had posts in the previous year is a good idea. It strikes me a bit oddly that the Pancake RP, which hasn't been posted in since 2013 and has 56 posts total, almost won Best RP. Nothing against Pancakes in particular, I just think the awards should reflect current Temple. |
