Hey since Pokemon Blue, Red, and Yellow are coming out to the 3DS virtual console in next month. I would like to know what is your favorite memory with these games? For me is getting pokemon yellow from my grandparents such good times.

I remember a friend of mine got Blue before me. We played it a lot but since we we're so small we didn't know any english. Eventually we figured out the genius idea that you might win the battles if you press A as much and as fast as possible.

My first own was Yellow. I think I got it for christmas. I remember sitting in my grandparents sofa playing it. Good times.

I'd rather be outside.

When I think on my favorite memories from my first playthrough of Pokémon Red, most of them are tied to finding a Pokémon sprite on the overworld - e.g. finding Articuno, Mewtwo etc. I also really enjoyed capturing my first Scyther after many tries and pretty much using it to solo all of Sylph Co. and Giovanni in Saffron City.

I also enjoyed being an independent discoverer of the Cinnabar Island east coast glitch - the one where if you surfed up and down that coast, you would run into Pokémon from the last patch of grass you were in. I used that to catch a ton of Safari Zone Pokémon. But that was a few playthroughs after my first one. The item dupe glitch was pointed out to me later.

Ah yes... the original pokemon games. Alakazam will always have a special place in my heart as my first lv100 pokemon. Venusaur was my second lv100, and I don't think I got any other pokemon to lv100 after that.

I got blue first, used venusaur. I don't think I ever captured all 150 in it, but I got pretty close. I got red second, used blastoise. Then I restarted red and used charizard. For some reason, even though I went through cerulean cave and captured mewtwo in all three playthroughs, it's the third one that I remember, just wrecking the cerulean cave pokemon with slash and flamethrower. The charizard playthrough was also the only time I had to grind for brock... I got a butterfree to learn confusion and pretty much just kept fighting him until he didn't use rock throw on it lol.

In every one of those playthroughs, I think I just used the starter pokemon and the legendary birds (the butterfree was dropped shortly thereafter... might've gotten it to the mid-20s before dropping it). It wasn't until GSC that I started training a second pokemon to go with the starter, and it wasn't until gen 3 that I started using 3-4 core pokemon. To this day, I still don't use more than 3-4 core pokemon, the others being reserved for hm slaves.

I fondly remember getting the game right after it came out and having to stop playing as my gameboy was about to run out of batteries and we didn't have any more at the time.

Had a gameshark for it and I was the coolest kid in school. The discovery of the Cinnabar Island glitch put a stop to that though.

my older brother attempted pokemon only once. he did not know how to change the order of pokemon in his party. he made it to fuchsia city with a lv 70 blastoise and his next strongest pokemon was a 16 meowth

edit: this is also the same brother who managed to "lose" at golden sun

Oh man, I remember when I first got blue, the first time my power started getting low. I was panic saving every couple seconds, before finally putting it down when I realized that it would probably be bad if the power went out while I was saving.

back when I was in elementary school, my sister and I both got game boy pockets for Christmas with a pokemon game and a link cable. she got red, I got blue. I don't recall much specifically from that run. I went with bulbasaur. I recall one night when my family stayed at a hotel along our road trip to Illinoise to see our grandparents for that Christmas, I made it all the way to the rock tunnel without ever getting flash. I could just barely make out the silhouettes of the rock walls on that little dark GBPocket screen. And I had yet to be acquainted with "repel", so all the zubats and geodudes hit me like a swarm of mosquito every step of the way. And of course, being a kid, I didn't have that great of mental mapping skills. I eventually made it through, having blacked out probably 4 or 5 times in my many attempts to punch through the darkness, and felt very accomplished. good times.

Death comes to all of those who oppose me.

Pokemon red is the only game I got all of the pokemon in. My friend had pokemon blue so it worked out.

Pokemon Red, Christmas morning 1998. I chose Charmander and Brock was my mortal enemy. I actually don't remember how I beat him.

I don't have many specific memories other than the vague sense of awe that pervaded throughout my only playthrough. Finding Articuno and reaching Cinnabar Island were the highlights for sure.

Also, the music made the 9-year-old me actually think "I am living my childhood, and one day it will be gone." Paraphrasing, ofc, but the sentiment was there.

Red and Blue basically took over the lives of all the neighborhood kids in my area. There were about 3 pairs of brothers all within a block of each other (myself and my brother included in that), and we would meet up at each others houses often to trade, battle and just play the game together. I remember one of them always tried to battle us with only the legendary birds and Mewtwo (super annoying!!!), and another would act like some of the Pokemon in public which, in retrospect, is pretty weird and embarrassing but we were all kids so whatever!

Many of those guys became my first and closest friends, and our Pokemon adventures lead to many years of gaming and fun together. I haven't spoken to any of them in years, some in a decade. When I hear some of the music from Red + Blue now, it makes me a little sad thinking back on such joyful days.

Seccy "no fun allowed" Secundum

*Enemy Arbok used wrap!*

*Player Seccy smashed head against screen! It wasn't very effective!*

Also being a first time player and trying to beat brock with nothing but a Charmander and a Pikachu when it first came out.
