Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

Meat is amazing, I'm sorry. I was raised on the notion that a diet entirely consisting of plants is a BAD thing for a species that's CLEARLY omnivorous.

No hate on vegetarians though, just my perspective.

I can't live without beef god damn it

I try to eat organic food when it is recently fresh. If it isn't, most of the needed nutrients become less.
You know the only difference between "organic" food and non-organic food is that it costs more right?

Not always, but there's definitely a lot of flaws in the way organic food is labelled and the allowed list of fertilizers or so on.
Some products definitely benefit from being organic (for example, organic jam that I used to buy actually has vitamin C in it, instead of being basically candy), but other stuff is definitely scam-tier. You have to judge on a case-by-case basis (and sometimes organic stuff does taste better), and know what an organic label means.

I like the idea of eating locally grown produce, but by December my options are rather limited. Someday, Adnarel and I want to build a county house and we'll probably grow and can our own food.
get a peach tree. good all year round (but don't quote me on that) and peaches are amazeballs. That and they look like butts. eheheh, butts. eheheheh

I doubt the organic label has the same requirements in the US as it does in Canada, Saturos. Generally speaking though most "non-organic" things were used for a reason, and usually it's a positive one (pesticides), and most things are harmless.

(pesticides)
Which are only positive if used correctly. (Hint: They aren't.)

As for organic vs not organic, I bet it mostly depends on where/what you buy whether it's accurately organic or not. However I think that you can get (roughly) similar health benefits as trying to go full organic if you try and resolve to just eat less of the hella processed foods.

Edit: I suppose I should say that pesticides being used incorrectly isn't bad for the food, but rather the environment.

Pretty much depends on the food. And there are differences beyond organic and inorganuc. Eggs in Japan are tastier and more nutritious than in Canada, and cheaper. I assume there are production differenfes

I don't think I would ever be able to go vegetarian. I like few enough foods as it is that cutting meat out of my diet would probably be bad. (I don't like seafood of any kind or chicken...or probably most fruits and vegetables. but I'm getting better and working on actually trying different things to see if my taste buds have changed)

I'm the kind who doesn't really eat much of anything, though when I have to my tastes are incredibly childish. I try to stay away from red meat, usually cause it's a really bad texture and way too chewy. I was vegetarian from 10 years old until I was 15. I gave it up in the end under the weight of my family calling me "difficult".

The words of someone who ate their vegetables instead of the fruits her parents gave her. Unless the fruit is in already in the food like in muffins and other pastries.

I think that depends on a lot of things (I'm gonna talk mostly about steak here, but the same stuff applies to other meats too). There's the cut of the meat (filet mignon is going to be more tender than sirloin, which in turn is going to be more tender than say... chuck eye), the way it's sliced (going against the grain can drastically reduce chewyness for some cuts of steak; if you cut with the grain, you end up with long contiguous pieces that are more difficult to chew), whether or not it's marinated (giving meat time to marinate can make it more tender), and of course the way it's cooked (unless you're cooking burgers, there's no reason to go beyond medium, and medium-rare is probably ideal if you trust your supplier). If you've never had meat cooked by someone that knows how to prepare it, I can understand why you might think that the texture is poor, but if you've ever had a steak cooked by someone that knows what they're doing, I think you'd change your mind.

Vegan.

Moral/environmental/health issues bear influence on this, yes, though, it's mostly directed at the impacts of our domineering industrial food system. I am not opposed to meat consumption at a basic level (i.e. tribal/indigenous peoples living as subsistence hunters, etc.).

I never really had an appetite for a particular type of food, so abstaining from meat was an easy decision for me. My diet is fairly straightforward and easy to craft — a variety of fruits, vegetables mixed with staples of Desi-Bengali cuisine (rice, lentils, but without fish). Lately, I've begun everyday with a smoothie (full apple, banana, and orange, blended with mixed berries, and approx. 1 1/2 cup of hemp milk and 3 teaspoons of hemp seeds). Often fills up 2-3 glasses and so nourishing throughout morning and afternoon — no idea how I will be able to replace this.
