Genres of video games you don't like?

Any types of game you plain just don't care for?

My most disliked is probably platformers, I never could get into them. I just can't... re-doing levels over and over and over to get it right, you make one false move and you're dead. The only pure platformer I can really stomach to a degree are Yoshi Island games, and even that is pushing it. Uncharted has its moments of annoying jumpy-jumps, too, but nowhere near as rage-inducing as actual platforming games, or for me.

Second least favorite would probably be RTS, they have a habit of not being able to hold my attention. Even turn-based tactical games have to be a particular way or I don't play them.

Third is most likely FPS, something about the perspective makes me lose all sense of where I am in relation to its virtual world. They have a habit of making me dizzy. I actually do play this genre for the occasional game that doesn't make me feel that way, though.

Hopefully I am not the only one that's this picky about video games...

Wheey! I've became a human being!! I am very handsam!

racing simulators, that's really the only thing I'll straight-up not play. I guess flight sims too but I've never actually played one to begin with in order to decide that I don't want to.

"One mistake and you're dead" is a pretty rare occurrence in platformers, even a lot of old ones.

Rogue like. I hate that shit. I like knowing what to expect and coming up with ways to get past whatever obstacle on my own. Played Rogue Legacy for like 20 mins and then immediately deleted. [radio edit] that shit.

4X. I legitimately can't fathom why someone would play something that's so. damn. boring. I wish I could refund civ.

Slower RTS', where your army takes forever to cross the map. Uhh you mother[radio edit]ers need to move your ass, because I'm trying to see some fighting here, which is why I built you guys in the first place.

That's kinda funny, actually, I forget what mario game it was but there was one where the majority of the level was bouncing off flying enemies or you die. I've recently been playing Yoshi's Island DS, trying to finish it after I gave up years ago, the later levels can be brutal (4-7, ugh.)

@Steve: With you there, I might have to drop FPS from my third slot, I completely forgot about fighting games, not a fan.

I can't say I have a genre that I hate but a genre that I've found difficult for myself to get into is grand strategy with games like Europa Universalis. As much of a cool concept that I think it is I'm having a hard time with it. Again, I don't actually dislike it.

as a roguelike fan I'd just like to say rogue legacy is complete shit in every way. And I don't even mean this from a "genre purity" standpoint either, I like both "pure" RLs and "rogue-lites." Rogue Legacy is just terribly designed and unfun.

I can definitely understand not liking the idea of the genre though. But if Rogue Legacy was all you played you might find something else you like.

I can think of examples of just about every genre that I actually greatly enjoy playing even if I wouldn't say I play that genre ever. Flight sims I tend not to touch, buuut I played the crap out of space combat sims as a kid through to today. The Star Wars games, Freespace, and so on. Racing sims are largely out, though I still play through Need for Speed Underground on occasion. I suppose I don't really play Grand Strategy games, though that's more because they require a significant time investment to really come to grips with and I just don't have that kind of patience - I still love what they do and love hearing about various stories people have accomplished with them. I balance out that with a large amount of 4X game time anyway.

I don't know... suppose there's no real genre I don't invest myself into at least a little bit. The above and, perhaps, straight up Adventure games are the least played of mine, but everything else is represented in spades.

Sound the horn and call the cry: "How many of them can we make die?"

Like some people have said, I don't dislike any genre as a whole, but there are certainly some that I have a harder time getting into. Usually if it's done well, I can at least appreciate it from a technical standpoint, even if it I don't subjectively like it.

Side-scrolling games, especially platformers, are ones that have trouble appealing to me. The side-scrolling format itself is generally too immersion-breaking for me to get around it, I find myself going "why is this tree an obstacle, why can't you walk around it you dumb mother[radio edit]er."

I want to like fighting games but most of them have too steep a learning curve for me to enjoy against anybody except computers on low difficulty settings, because I'm a filthy casul.

Sports and racing games are probably the least likely to appeal to me, with most sports I just figure if I want to play it, I'll go gather up a few friends and go to the park or something. Racing usually has to have some sort of special twist, like Nitronic Rush's weird gravity, for me to like it.

Rhythm games aren't a thing I tend to like either. Not sure why, it's just a mechanic that really doesn't interest me.

I don't think I outright dislike any genre except maybe puzzle, but even then, I love games like Pokemon Puzzle League.

Sports games bore me for the most part unless they're Mario or Tony Hawks Pro Skater. Or Hot Shots Golf.

Alright, when you people keep saying "flight simulators", do you mean Ace Combat or Microsoft Flight Simulator? Because one of those isn't a game.

Odyssey, ya see~ Odyssey, ya see~

Strategy games tend to be either boring or really stressful for me. The exceptions are Pikmin and Fire Emblem. Not big on racing simulators either.

Turn-based strategy can be quite a turn off, depending on difficulty. Easier ones with no real penalties for losing (such as FFTA) are fine, but others, where legit a death means absolutely dead, or that you have to invest a LOT of time into, are just too much for me. (such as Tactical Ogre, which I only got through because the story seemed super interesting so I turned on some cheats that made it less investing so I could enjoy it a bit more)

I think Sports, Racing, Fighting, RTS, and 4X are the main genres I tend to avoid. I don't think I'd really have issues playing the first three from time to time, but not many of them interest me; I'm basically 100% sure I wouldn't like the latter two. There's probably a few others I tend to avoid due to one reason or another, but I can't think of them.
