I know there is this topic but since that's in PG and more about yugioh than MtG I thought why not make a separate one.

Do any of you actively play and if so, competitive or casual?

Also what are your favourite decks and cards?

I sort of play casually, sometimes. Our playergroup kind of got completely fractured so there's not really much point in getting intense about it.

That being said, I'm "that asshole" who plays Infect and/or Elf Ramp. Neither is as effective as they could be, but that's entirely because being the most effective they could be would make all my matches incredibly boring.

Favorite card would almost certainly have to go to Skithyrix the Blight Dragon, affectionately referred to as "Skittles." It was the first major card I deliberately traded for with the intent to use, for the first proper deck I built, a blue-black infect deck that was standard-legal at the time simply because I only own Scars of Mirrodin cards. That deck has become my horrifically aggravating mono-black Infect deck that I use whenever I feel like either stomping or getting stomped.

I basically traded a foil Baneslayer Angel for 80% of the supplies to make that deck. I'd do it again if I still gave as much of a shit about Magic.

Got back into Magic in the last 18 months or so due to friends playing a lot of it. Prior to that, I played casually during high school and left when Odyssey was the standard set, so quite some time ago. We largely play casual Commander, though there's been quite a bit of an arms race going as people get more and more ridiculous combos and janky BS, so it's hard to keep up. My major decks are a Marath green/white/red creature deck that focuses on +1 counters and stupid combos with them, and a green/black Jarad reanimation/graveyard play deck because I like the colours and a lot of my friends started playing mill, so I fought them that way.

I really miss the set of five Dragon Legends I had from the Invasion set... I kept them somewhere safe away from the rest of my cards, and when I went digging I couldn't find them in the pile, so I guess it was really safe? Either way, I miss having those. They'd make some pretty solid commanders, and in fact they have in my friends decks (Crosis and Rith have both seen some play).

i once got a starter deck but i never really got into it

they should release a game on handhelds/mobile/PC with fully customizable decks and a big card pool to attract newcomers

It exists.

Not the hugest card pool, but considerably varied and big, and you don't want the full card pool unless you want to completely swamp new players and such. Decks are fully customisable too. There's also Magic Online, which is like the actual game except completely digital.

Thanks Poui.

I play sometimes. A few of my friends are big into EDH/Commander, and the local cardshop does tourneys every thursday, so the bunch of us (bro, 2-3 buddies, myself) pool our cards more or less entirely together to make decks. We usually are fine with loaning a deck to either the store owner, or someone who showed up to support a friend, feels like playing, but didn't have a deck.

Usually I play my Sliver deck, which is basically a giant toolbox in a deck deck. Runs Overlord as its commander, ultimate goal is to get him out early as I can, then just start searching up whatever I need to beat the enemy down.

Although occasionally I'll manage to get a hand that lets me start chucking excessive amounts of damage with 2 drop critters by turn, like, 3, which is a little slow for the race atm, so I need to ramp up the deck again, but I don't have the cares to.

Aside from that, my fun deck runs this chick: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=aurelia%2C+the+warleader as its commander, and my basic goal is to slam her, a bunch of small guys, or one or two big guys with her and just swing face.

I like swinging face, you see.

I recently got back into the game after a decent hiatus; I stopped playing right after Time Spiral came out. I keep all of my old cards, so now I play Commander exclusively. I have about 8 decks so far, and it's probably my favorite format now. At some point, I should look into making a Modern deck to change it up a little, though.

My favorite color is Blue, and I love Merfolk, Angels, and Gorgons. Speaking of the Invasion dragons, I have two Treva's sitting in my box atm. Back when I first got into the game, my friends and I each had decks with one of them in it.

Treva was the first one I got and absolutely my favourite so I'm quite jealous of you. I need to find those... or at the very least, pick up a new one. In the meantime I'm pondering what kind of deck to make next: my Golgari deck was the most recent one, and it came out pretty nicely, so I could tweak that and make it a little more impressive or move on to a new project first. I was thinking something like an Orzhov white/black angels and life gain/rez deck, not sure of Commander, but unsure if I'd go through with that yet. I used to run an Oloro deck so it'd be a bit like that minus the blue. Could go red/white and go full angels as an alternative... oh the decisions.

Also, if you get the chance, try drafting some packs of Modern Masters 2. My friend bought a box of it so we did a draft session last night, and it was super fun. The amount of bullshit on hand in those packs is amazing. Winner of the draft ran an Eldrazi deck and stomped on everyone with an Ulamog, what's not to love?
