If they are going for a more modern style akin to FF13, I sure hope to god they let you control/command other party members. Equipping materia was a cool way to customize each character and I hope they add a bit more impact to how materia can affect your stats and such. I'd really like if they went with a system where MP recovers at the end of battle and has a regen rate, akin to something like Dragon Age. Some other tweaks would be nice to make offensive and indirect magic more viable, since using magic was often inefficient compared to physical attacks in the FF games since it went through resources and common battles weren't enough of a threat to use anything outside of mashing the X button and using cure when necessary.

Yeah, that's one thing I'd like to see from FF7. There was really no point to magic, not when you can just slap on a 2cut or 4cut materia and deal just as much damage for no resource cost. Making it easier/cheaper to recover MP is another good option, but I think you're right, bro.

The Materia system is my biggest worry. When they went for a more ARPG approach in Crisis Core, the Materia system was pretty awful. So if they go for an ARPG approach again, I fear the Materia system will be completely ruined.

The idea was that you Paradigm Shift a lot, but that was largely unnecessary so it's just Auto Battle... Auto Battle... Auto Battle on repeat. It got tiresome.
I'm sorry but did you actually play the game or are you just parroting the internet? Because that's complete BS.

Pretty much this. The combat system in FFXIII was actually pretty great, you could customize your teams to perform the strategies that you wanted to pull off. Auto battle couldn't do that kind of thing to min/max the buffs/attacks to maximize attack uptime.

And good luck taking out the harder marks with auto battle. I'll prepare your funeral.

I don't know about that. XV is a massive jump for the series, I think they'll try to keep true to the ATB system. They DEFINITELY don't have the resources to make VII like XV in a short amount of time, though, so unless they plan to release VII.2 in a decade...

VII *certainly* won't be like XIII though. A, all the abuse they copped from XIII, B, there is no nice way to integrate materia into that system, which are a pretty big focus of the game...

Maybe more like XII then? Because somehow I'm not so sure they'll do random encounter classic battles. I think with this remake, we'll truly see one hell of a remake on many parts.

IMHO, that's more likely.

I agree we'll probably see a few changes compared to most of their other remakes, and personally I reckon a system similar to the PSX Lunar remakes would be pretty cool.

Are you telling me I can live on paradise island with a cute guitar playing girl that waits for my commands?

Is this how the world ends?

Is this part of Illuminatis depopulation project?

Adachi is not amused.

I played a good chunk of FF13-1, though only about 15-20 hours... not far enough to get to where the game really opened up before I got tired of it, though I am in the process of replaying and attempting to get further. There were situations and bosses where this was not the case, notably one boss where I was in control of just Lightning/Hope and really had to come up with good paradigms and shift constantly for buffs/debuffs/heals just to survive, but for the most part I spent the vast majority of it doing as I said.

Again, I don't hate FF13 to the vast majority that the internet does, but it was probably the hardest time I've ever had engaging with a Final Fantasy game. Additionally, a lot of the major flaws and complaints I had with the game were improved upon in 2, and even some places in 3... though overall I just felt that there didn't need to be three of them, especially since their stories were just convoluted and messy and not as engaging or interesting as they could have been. More to the point, I simply don't want their aspects to really affect an FF7 remake.

Nonetheless, we'll probably end up seeing more of it at the Square Enix conference.

The thing about the FF13s - the first in particular - is that you're not even really playing the game because everything you could be inputting, the Auto Battle does faster and better.
the thought of doing postgame FFXIII with autobattle is horrifying

it may work earlygame but that's just because you don't have many attacks/spells

also i understand if you don't get to the meat of the game because the story is pretty meh

I'd be interested in seeing the Materia system expanded, too. I liked what was there, it was a great system, but I would love to see even more unique Materia introduced.

I'd also like to not permanently lose a certain someone's equipment and Materia. That doesn't make sense, considering they're with you after that point still.

Yeah, out of all the new games announced that was the one I was most taken by, half because of the rumored description. Well, I am not disappointed, looks wonderful as far as graphics and combat. I'm hopeful for the story, too, there's potential there.

ReCore also caught my eye, but not seeing gameplay I'm not entirely sure what to expect. The end of the trailer showed various forms for your little core buddy, so I imagine you'll be swapping out forms for combat purposes (obviously) and possibly puzzles that need unique abilities or something.

That Uncharted 4 demo was so sexy, too. Hnnng.

Wheey! I've became a human being!! I am very handsam!

There was some nice misdirection in that Remake trailer voiceover, almost made you second-guess and think maybe it was actually gonna be a sequel.

I was surprised by how much The Last Guardian just looked like Ico 2: Your Helper Can Actually Do Shit Now. Like, if that's all it's gonna be, how the hell did it take so many years to figure out? There has to be something more to it they're not showing yet, right?
