wait, that stuff? I thought you meant the green-coated bread with the honeydew melon custard. Melon-pan is just bread with a sweet crust I thought meant MELON PAN. (I'll try and take a picture sometime this week but it might be seasonal?) |

Is there Uncle Tetsu's in Japan? I lined up for more than 30 minutes to get one of those cheesecakes when I was in Shanghai. |

There was a Vive in Nagoya when I was there but I don't think I looked in Tokyo when I visited this summer. I've never heard of Uncle Tetsu's, but depending on how it's written (Katakana kanji or english) I could just not have known what it was. Speaking of Japanese food idk what it's called but on Saturday we went to this cool (if slightly yuck) fry house. Basically every table had it's own little deep fryer and for the all-you-can-eat fee you got up and picked up whatever you wanted on skewers, came back, battered it at the table and fried it while talking. Very very cool, but very very gross if you're like me and can't handle that much grease at a time (only thing they didn't have was french fries but man those cheese buns wow...) |

that fry house sounds awful and at the same time delicious. also kiki i know 2 japanese exchange students, one time we took them to a sushi place and apparently the sushi over here is pretty bad compared to sushi in japan. too 'american', whatever that means |

Same way as most cuisines are different in foreign countries when compared to their place of origin, I assume. |

They did that at this Chinese restaurant I loved in California, one of those where you got to pick your own fish/crab |

American sushi is just loaded with a lot of extra stuff that Japanese sushi isn't. When I see American sushi, I always get the impression that they're treating it like a burrito: trying to cram as many different things into it as possible. |

Apparently the live seafood thing in Chinese restaurants is sometimes a scam: they take the thing out of the tank, show it to you at the table, then take it out the back and put it in another tank, and instead serve you something that's already dead or frozen or whatever. Then they put them back in the first tank at the end of the night. The freshly-slaughtered thing is usually a legacy of the lack of availability of refrigeration in regional China until relatively recently. |

It probably depends where you live. You're inland, Shads, so you don't have much fresh fish nearby. I actually find that sushi in Japan is pretty [radio edit]ing shitty and tasteless fish, but the sashimi is absolutely excellent and to die for. I'd just eat sashimi all the time if I could. In Canada, I feel the good quality fish is used in sushi, since we don't really have sashimi... EDIT: Yeah, that frying thing sounds gross... I'd rather do yakiniku, personally. xP |

trust me, i know. when i lived in vietnam i had a squid that was about as fresh as you could get, saw it swimming about in the sea, 2 hours later I'm eating it and O M F G it was so good. probably the best tasting thing i've ever had, solely because of the freshness factor. |
