Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

FE is a great series, but the only one I can really play is Sacred Stones. I'm fine with having the option to grind, as long as that option is less effective (and I don't mean just time consuming).
the grinding in sacred stones is a bit too effective imo

you can make ewan, a character who by other FE standards would be nearly unusable into someone who can actually contribute (granted, lute and artur (and the healers once promoted) are generally more effective overall but you can still use him)

I'd say in an ideal world, an SRPG would give you fairly static units, that each have difficulty accomplishing anything on their own, but need to be utilized together in creative ways to complete maps. Because of the lack of growth, it would be much easier to fine-tune the balance of the game, making it as difficult as it needs to be, without worry of a couple units becoming overpowered just because they got used the most.
So, Knights in the Nightmare.

training him without tower of valni is quite the mad stunt

I think of Nino from FE7 when it comes to Ewan. You have 4 chapters left of the game (or 7 if you've been playing effectively) and all of a sudden you've recruited a seemingly useless lv. 5 Mage. Most things will kill her in two hits, perhaps just one. But if you position correctly and give as much EXP to her as you can, it's entirely possible to have a Nino that is at least 20/15 and, thanks to her absurd growth rates, probably outscaled the likes of Erk and Pent. It's not easy to pull off, and she's potentially redundant if you've invested so much in those Sages already, AND she might end up sucking if the RNG Goddess is being mean, but it's a very nice investment.

Basically what I'm saying about Ewan is that it's possible to avoid grinding altogether and still successfully raise him to be an effective team member (since achieving 10/20/20 on him is overkill) because past games have these kinds of units without the intended option to grind, but you're taking a conscious risk to distribute valuable EXP to them as well as risk having an underleveled unit on the field who is going to be prioritized by the enemy. The high potential is supposed to be the incentive for "babying" these kinds of units so late into the normal campaign.

nino has way better base stats than ewan

and pent is still better than her overall because even if nino overtakes him in stats pent comes with A-rank in staves (i say this but i use nino in every run)
