Nearly all FF6 characters are so memorable that they deserve a spot, it could almost fill the entire warriors of light side of the roster itself. This is coming from someone who loves many of the 3d FF games too. |

But where would we BUY OUR SWORDS! and KNOW THIS PAINT! Sabin would be like Jecht, but with Suplex instead of Triumphant Grasp. Setzer would be cool... though how the hell he'd work is beyond me. So... Celes it is? |

If Celes is in, she should be a more physically based character, to balance out with Terra's magic. Both could do either well, and Runic kinda fits more towards physical techniques since it's a weapon-centric ability, so it kind of makes sense. |

This game is being developed by Team Ninja apparently. Also Ramza was revealed as being in the game in some capacity. |

I'd say dropped, but I don't really care about the story in Dissidia anyway. |

Assuming that's a reference to Other M, they didn't do that game's story anyway |

For those interested, during last night's Live Letter for FFXIV:ARR, they confirmed that roughly a year after Arcade release, this Dissidia will indeed be coming to PS4. |

Yoshio Sakamoto, who is essentially the series co-creator along with Gunpei Yokoi (may he rest in peace) He wrote the story for most of them, just turns out that having limitations (technical, graphical, gameplay, etc) is what kept him from writing dreck before now |

Hopefully the backlash for Other M was so utterly righteous that they find some kind of limitations on him. Preferably a restraining order on all writing equipment ever while working. But not so intense a limitation as to never allow more Metroid games. Seriously, we need more Metroid. On topic, Team Ninja or no, I'm still cautiously optimistic about this one. I've longed to play more Dissidia since I've never had any PSP device at any point and I've only been able to play on borrowed machines. |

I've only heard rumors, but that sounds like the alleged reason there haven't been any Metroid games since: He wants to go one way, Nintendo wants to go a different way. But that's off-topic. So this IS coming to PS4 then? I might actually get it then. |

It does look exceptionally pretty. I note Y'shtola... I haven't fully experienced all of FF14 but after Theatrhythm it seems she's the go-to representative. Is there a reason for that? Is she absolutely the most stand out character from that game? |

I honestly don't care for her all that much. Probably something about catgirls. I wouldn't say she stands out any more than anybody else, really. |

Actually I'd say otherwise. If they were going to include anyone from FF14 it would most likely be a Scion, and of all the Scions she has the most fleshed out backstory (and arguably the best VA in any of the languages). Apart from say Minfillia herself, she is also definitely one of the most featured. Urianger would make for a more interesting choice, but combat wise it makes the most sense to use Y'shtola. Both Yda and Thancred we've only seen martial prowess from and opposed to Papalymo in magic we've simply seen a greater variety of combat abilities from Y'shtola. That and with her being a CNJ/WHM rather than a BLM or melee style class opens her up to a broader selection of abilities, both damage and support-wise. Really, who else from the protagonist's supporting cast would you choose to take part in a game like Dissidia? We could argue one of the GC leaders, but a players interaction and knowledge of them will generally vary depending on which city state they start in. And while I would actually pay thousands of dollars to have a Dissidia with ANY of the Mandervilles, I doubt that will ever happen. Antagonists we have plenty of great choices, but if we had to choose a protagonist, who'd you rather go with Steve? |

I feel like this is still somewhat true to a point even regarding some of the Scions. Case in point, I'd probably pick Thancred over any of them, even given your point about melee characters and such, simply because he's the one that sticks out in my mind the most. I'm willing to bet the reason for that is because I started in Ul'dah and met him before the others. Then again Y'shtola just rubs me the wrong way in general. |

That's fair enough. It's simply that, from memory, all I can recall of Thancred in the early levels is him being a womanizer and Yda/Papalymo simply going around saying "Aether" a lot. I felt like Y'shtola interacted and conversed with you slightly more than the others did. |

Since I'm actually playing through FF14 as of late and I happened to start in Limsa Lominsa, I'd say that my interactions with Y'shtola have also been comparatively minimal. I met her or had her referenced maybe half a dozen notable times if that before officially meeting and working with all the Scions, and then immediately ended up questing with Thancred arguably more than I did with Y'shtola. She was on the field more in those times rather than the occasional quest giver interaction, but neither of them are especially more notable than the other. Unless the quests after joining the Scions continue to be different based on city state starts? I don't know. I guess what I'm saying is that the only reason Y'shtola is likely the go-to rep for FF14 is because catgirl. |

No, past the starting areas they're not different. That's where things become all "fight for everyone and not just your GC". Still I guess it comes down to what we remember. I hit 50 at the start of last year so really all of those quests are way out of my memory by now, but all I can honestly recall from any of the starter zones was Y'shtola, her talking about her family, later on naming her sister etc whereas I STILL can't remember a dam thing about Thancred and Yda/Papa without having to resort to the Inn book. Y'shtola was also very prominent back in 1.0 from what I can recall as well. Even most of the subreddit tends to lean more in favour of her than the other scions, based on the polls they've thrown around and general discussion of the character. Then again maybe it's all because catgirl, what do I know. Wouldn't be the first time SE has made a decision catering solely to the lowest common denominator. |
