Can we just automatically say Simple won Best Taste three times, just to get him out of the way? Also we can't get rid of Best Clansperson, not until I win it for a third time. |

A few things I seem to recall from last year: No one really seemed to know what "Most Worthy" entailed, so if it's a choice between getting rid of Best Clansperson and Most Worthy, I feel like it should be the There was a bit of backlash for having a Worst Opinions award last year (Satty's idea, iirc, but I think we just kind of went along with it because it looked, for a while, like he was going to win it), since it's kind of a booby prize to win, rather than actually being something in the spirit of award-giving. But if you guys want to keep it, and/or balance it out with a Best Opinions/Best Taste thing, then that's certainly another solution. Some people submitted joke nominations last year; some nominations seemed like joke nominations when they came in; some nominations got culled before the voting went up; and some people were irritated that their nominations didn't make it through, or had been judged to be joke nominations and thrown out when they had actually been 'serious'. I don't really know what to do about this, except that if you think there's a possibility that your nomination might come across as being troll and you don't want it to be thrown out, to make a point of noting that it's a serious nomination. The Best Graphic Artist --> Best Visual Artist thing was brought up during last season, and I don't see any problems with it. Someone wanted the Best Mafia and/or Best Mafia Player award/s to be brought back. Public voting or secret voting? There's no real way to hide the results of polls in threads after you've voted, and the running commentary can be pretty funny, but I don't think you can say that the availability of results in polls has no effect on the outcome of the polls. Whether it matters or not is the question. And I think I'm out. |

It's possible to hide poll results, but it's forum-wide. We had it on Sunrise during our own awards voting. |

Yeah Catman, we didn't want to do that. We actually had a script that hid poll results, but some spoilsports (not naming any names, you know who you are) decided to obsessively refresh and look at the poll in the millisecond before the script took effect. We could hide results for the entire forum, yes, and then reveal them for staff only. Alternatively: last year, we also had a bit of kerfluffle with Tract claiming that his secret alt army rigged the board awards. Whether that was bullshit or not, as a precautionary measure, we might switch voting to our original system of "submit and tally by PM." It does sacrifice a bit of anonymity in that one person would know who voted for what, but it's the most secure measure. It also requires a bit of work, but I for one don't mind doing it. I like data input. Oh yeah, Worst Opinions did end up causing drama, didn't it? I would like Adnarel's input on that one, considering he's the one who won it. Bringing back Mafia stuff sounds good. Good memory, Nell, and thanks for the post. That was very informative. |

I somewhat doubt that's something you really "balance out" by having an opposite award with. |

Google has a new feature for Google Forms that limits the number of responses it'll accept, which should deter spam vote antics. So, that's an option you can go back to. It's easier for members voting, it totals the votes for staff, and it keeps results 100% hidden. |

quote pyramids are literally hitler but Adding to this because I feel like I want to. I agree with Pey; when it comes to psychology being declared the Worst is typically far more wounding than being declared the Best is encouraging. Exceptions exist, of course, and once you hit the extremes at either end it likely matters more (being proven the Best Scientist on the planet, for example, is probably a pretty [edit]ing huge positive, while being proven the best person buying Tim Horton's jelly donuts from Japan is probably not) But since we're just a little ol' forum we're firmly in the butter zone where being the worst is likely more depressing than being the best is uplifting, and considering the kinds of miniature shitblusters we can get just from barking at each other's opinions as it is And yes, I do in fact realize it's one of the Temple's "hey we're all friendly and snarky at each other look we give each other shit for having objectively garbage opinions" things. Doesn't mean I have to be 100% behind the concept of immortalizing it onto someone's profile. tl;dr - Worst Opinions gets the , replace it with Best Opinions

IIRC Adnarel went out of his way to win that award last year. Also, I'm fine with submitting the votes via google docs again. |

Sooooooooooooo then Google will close the voting after the first spammer and lock out the rest of the legit votes? Or is it like "only X amount of responses per IP Address" or something? |

Yeah, that's about how it works. After say 200 responses it won't accept anymore. At that point the person who owns the form can delete the spam submissions and reopen the form. |
