Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

flashing gifs can be funny/interesting for the first few times I see them. after that, they're just dumb, obnoxious, and a waste of space. (even more so for those physically affected by such images)

banning seems excessive. I like having the option to do things, even if they have the capacity to become something awful and unwanted by all.

And yeah, turning off ALL Sigs just because one or two people are abusing this sort of option is a crappy solution.

I REALLY wish people would simply be more courteous to their fellow Kradenettes who make legitimate requests to tone down their blatantly obnoxious content so that discussions like this weren't needed in the first place.

Would this also extend to flashing text, Leaf? Like [rainbow]sparkling grape juice[/rainbow] and etc?

Yeah. Text is a form of "image" as well (image as perceived by our eyes, that is). If it's flashing and it's showing up in every post, it's a problem.

I see no problem with just spoilertagging flashing images, they do appear on every post. I don't think turning off all sigs because of one person isn't a good solution. Adblock is an option, it just depends whether you want to emphasis people's freedom to use whatever images they like as long as ToS is respected, or people to browse without having to worry about epilepsy.

However, given that the former is dependent on having seen the image already, which defeats the purpose, I think the latter might be preferable?
But yes: does this extend to any kind of flashing thing, such as text or an image put in a post? Or only sigs?
If you're using rainbow text the way necare uses maroon, then yes, it would extend to posts. Otherwise, provided it's used briefly, I don't personally find it a problem. Like in the example you gave, after reading the text, I just scrolled the page so it was out of sight while I was reading the rest of your post, which is my usual answer to people posting flashing stuff.

For example, I think it would be reasonable to expect this to be spoiler tagged in the body of a post

I think the relevant question is: on whom should the onus be? Should it be the responsibility of the person with the discomfort to raise it with the poster of the offending image? Or should it be something we hold the general community to, to not post/spoiler images that could reasonably pose a problem? On some levels, it seems like a subjective (as opposed to eg. An ideological thing) which makes me think it should be the former, but I think there is value in reinforcing the idea that members need to be considerate of others.

I think, like most things, the answer lies somewhere in the middle. People should use reasonable judgment when posting or putting things in their signature, and if something could "reasonably" be seen as a problem, it should be spoiler tagged. It's subjective, yes, but I don't think you can make a truly objective measure for something like this, unless you take the extreme route and say "all animated images in signatures must be spoiler tagged." That would be too extreme, I think, and it would snag a lot of completely harmless pics (like the djinni emoticons, for instance). Which leaves us only with the option of a subjective measure.

Did someone invoke my presence.
