Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

As an aside, I can't quite work out how Nick Mamatas (who I have a bit of a fan crush on ) is involved in all of this. I keep seeing his name and twitter id around, and apparently he doxxed someone?

=( I'm really sorry she cancelled, since as the comments say, it's literally letting the terrorists win. But at the same time, I don't blame her. If it wasn't only my life on the line, but the lives of a bunch of bystanders too, I don't think I could make that call on their behalf either.

Wheey! I've became a human being!! I am very handsam!

Apparently the reason she decided to cancel in the end is that guns would still be permitted at the event with a valid concealed carry permit despite explicit threats of a shooting at the event. She's done other events despite threats before.

From a very cursory look, I think that mamatas guy has been critical of Gamergate.

For anyone who is following/still interested in this and hasn't heard:

Former NFL player Chris Kluwe writes blatantly derogatory post condemning GamerGate and its followers, his life continues.

Actor and prominent video game community personality Felicia Day writes a pacificistic, mewling post about how GamerGate has made her afraid to interact with other gamers and even talk about GamerGate, for fear of being doxxed, without even touching on what she thinks about GamerGate, gets doxxed within minutes.

Love the language in the first post.

I wouldn't want to be involved in the gaming industry in any capacity at this point. =/ Not even as some lowly assistent artist.

True, Peytral. I prefer KKK though because gamergate is also not an organized military group and like the KKK they hide behind masks. Its also made up of young white men with low prospects in a western country who commit acts against a historically oppressed group.

Well, the KKK themselves perpetuated quite a few killings and arson attacks, while so far GamerGate has only threatened it. Still bad, but not quite KKK-tier yet. Worse than the Westboro Baptist Church, though. :awsm: At least they don't really threaten anyone physically.

You literally think armchair internet threats are worse than "all gays are going to hell," "god kills soldiers," "god bless <insert mass shooting here", and picketing funerals.

I don't have a word for how stupid you are, so just call ggs Hitler and Nazis and save yourself time already

Seriously this topic is so circlejerk there's cum all over my laptop just from posting in it

To whom are you speaking, Boyd? Did you miss the part where someone threatened a whole campus with 'the worst school shooting in history?' because of this stuff? I think there's a difference between armchair internet threats and and internet threats where they give your personal address and details to everyone who hates you.

Also, are you sure that cum wasn't there before you posted

EDIT: I wasn't going to post this because I didn't think anyone would care, but maybe you guys should read it anyway. I don't think the analogy is 100% solid, but the point remains valid:

www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/10/16/of-gamers-gates-and-disco-demolition-the-roots-of-reactionary-rage.html

Can't get it to hyperlink, but just copy and paste, like diligent souls, there you go. (It's a sociological comparison between people who don't want games as a medium to evolve beyond what it has traditionally been, and people who protested against the popularity of disco as 'not real music' in the 80s)

Nice ad hominems, m8.

You call them "armchair internet threats," but if someone posts your specific address and threatens to rape and kill you, as far as I can tell, the only difference between an "armchair internet threat" and a real one is that the real one actually happens afterwards. Given that Sarkeesian filed a police report and moved, we don't know if it would actually happen or not.
Then there was the threat of the worst school shooting in history if Sarkeesian was allowed to give a talk. I don't believe this was specifically identified with Gamergate, but it's still a part of targeting and silencing women in the medium.

If you're confident in dismissing those as "armchair internet threats," would you then take no action in preventing them? If someone threatens someone else, is that okay because "hey, they're probably not going to actually do it." It might not seem likely to you because you're normal, but remember that West coast guy who went on a shooting rampage because he hated women posted his threats online beforehand.
Given that there's no way of telling what's an empty threat or a real one until it's too late and they actually do it, I'd rather err on the side of caution and treat such threats seriously.

I know if I had people posting my address and saying they were going to come and rape and kill me, hacking all my accounts and generally disrupting my life in a real way, I'd want people to take it seriously.

And yes, I do take real-world threats more seriously than ungrounded religious propaganda that isn't physically threatening anyone.

Well, no, if you actually still believe GamerGate is about journalistic ethics, then you probably wouldn't associate the act (that particular threat) with the movement. But if you've paid any attention at all to numerous analyses of the movement and its various mouthpieces, and your understanding (like a lot of people) is that it's not about that at all, and it's rather about a conservative reaction against feminism/SJWs/diversity in games, then the connection is pretty clear.

Boyd, didn't you break your laptop recently by spilling something on it
