The Sin Thesis

I've looked at those videos. They don't look like incomplete custom moves so much as junk data -- stuff that needed to be filled in with something, but doesn't form anything meaningful.

Could be, considering the actual method used to bring them out.

I was just watching some smash 4 videos earlier. I have never seen a smash game in which falcon punch looks less awesome.

Like, how do you even mess that up

Sakurai to make a special announcement at Fire Emblem Concert in July.

Yessss!!! My boy's coming back!!!!

and @Shadow: I would if I could, but afaik PM doesn't have a PAL release yet and I don't have an NTSC or hacked Wii. I did get to play one match of PM at a tournament I went to, and I picked Roy without hesitation, but I didn't get time to explore his moveset. They guy I fought was a competitive player so I got my ass handed to me very quickly lol.

So is it not longer valid to say Kid Icarus bias, Mario bias or Pokemon bias now?

To fanboys, it will always be valid justification as to why THIS MEGA AWESOME CHARACTER isn't in, yet Dark Pit is.

Sound the horn and call the cry: "How many of them can we make die?"

To be fair, Dark Pit being in at all is a [radio edit]ing travesty.

Adachi is not amused.

Never had any justifiable reason to call anything Mario or Pokemon bias: they're huge series with huge rosters of characters and they all have legitimate reasons for being represented in Smash for one reason or another. The Kid Icarus bias, on the other hand, is questionable. As Squee says, Dark Pit. I get that they did that because he was going to be like the Koopalings and just a recolour, but they saw a reason to give him his own balance changes for minimal effort, and that's fine. But then as well as that, you have Palutena, who while quite present in Uprising doesn't exactly have much in the way of combat abilities or powers - everything is added in Smash to give her any characterisation at all. And given that that's what Sakurai worked on recently... well. Then there's all the Kid Icarus assist trophies, when things like Isaac are no longer present in them at all despite being in the last game. I don't like to wave the bias thing around as an argument at all, but I do have to sit there and wonder if it exists.

Anyway. The Roy development is intriguing. Obviously there's been enough people asking for it to suggest bringing it back, and since he was a character in Melee I guess that's completely understandable. Plenty of people going "oh look another Marth clone", but his play style and moveset in Melee was different enough even if it kept the core mechanics down. So I'm hoping they give him the Wolf treatment and change up the moveset a little bit more so they don't appear to be straight clones anymore - as is pointed out, Lucina already *does exist*.

And on the note of Wolf... *crosses fingers* Still hoping.

This so [radio edit]ing hard. Did they forget how hated the clones were in Melee?

This has probably been argued before, but from what I've gathered from reading Sakurai interiews, it seems that making clones is a much faster and easier process than building new characters from scratch. If it's simply a matter of copy-pasting a moveset and adjusting some stats and visuals (i.e. the differences between Fox and Falco in Melee), then why not put them in the game? Or is it the principle of the thing that has people riled up?

I may disagree with Sakurai's choices of clones, but I really don't think he spent the same amount of time on Dark Pit as he would have if he'd made a brand-new character from the ground up. Same with Roy, Lucina, etc. I hate Dark Pit too, but if it was a quick and simple matter to get him in the game, then I can understand why Sakurai would do it.

I don't get the impression you've played Uprising, because without delving into spoilers she displayed a lot of potential as a character and her characterisation in the game was a key reason people wanted her in. She was highly requested in Japan IIRC and she also helped fill the series' dire female number. I'd argue WFT and Rosalina were the ones who lacked any combat potential, and I say this as a huge fan of the latter. Everything else though, Smash Run enemies, two new stages across both versions and two ATs were BS, even if Sakurai felt they were easy to port over from Uprising.

Also, apparently Sakurai had the option of adding five clones in Melee or Dedede, and chose the former to boost the number. While I'd have preferred the latter, I can understand why he went with the clones.

People should consider the idea that characters don't need to actually fight in their games but can also represent what their game is as a whole. Space Peach, thanks for that nickname ClawfordRosalina represents mechanics of Mario Galaxy games with the Up B showing off Launch star mechanics and Down B being that gravity pull mechanic you did with the Wiimote, etc. I main Doggie and I know all the dog did was flush out ducks for you, picked up ducks you shot and laugh at you for missing but the character represents Zapper games instead of dog's lack of combat abilities in Duck Hunt with the clay pigeons in the other minigame in Duck Hunt, hunter shooting as Smash attacks, Up B being the Duck flying away if you miss with actual sound effects taken from the original game and having other zapper games represented with gunmen and the can.

Get hype. And Lucas coming as well. Finally one of my more used characters from Brawl is coming back. No need to stick with Dog and Duck all the time.
