I have this incredibly hilarious image of Robin running out of tomes against Ganondorf, only for the former to do a karatesque yell and throw the book into Ganny's face for maximum damage.

Ah, I saw an older version of that a couple weeks ago! Good to see they updated with Lucina; looking forward to the Robin one!

Get yourself out there and play FE:A. I loathe strategy games and I think it's the bomb.

Just be prepared for a lot of grinding if you want everything content-wise.
Would like to confirm that I picked this up today at your recommendation and it is wonderful so far. Only thing is, now I'm sad that Robin won't be customizable in Smash. My hype for him/her increases regardless.

People are so butthurt about Lucina.

Half the people complain she's a clone of Marth (which she is with minor differences, but enough I think I'll prefer her), but we've had clones before. No need to act like the whole roster is suddenly Fire Emblem.

Then the other half seem butthurt because Lucina is a girl and they wanted Chrom instead.

Lucina and Robin are great additions though. My fave of the new ones. I have sort of accept Villager, though I still don't care for his addition. Wii Fit Trainer I still think is a stupid addition.

I wonder how many characters are going to be on the roster... and how many new ones there are still left? As much as I know it won't happen, I really want Isaac. That assist trophy in Brawl really made me want him.

Sakurai said the only differences between Lucina and Marth were that Lucina is slightly shorter, and that she doesn't need to hit with the tip of her blade to deal max damage.

That is the definition of a clone and everyone has every right to be irritated by it. I don't even think Mario and Luigi were that close in 64 (I could be wrong), but ever since then, Smash has worked to try and separate clones, to make them play differently.

You can literally play Lucina identically to how you play Marth.

Yes, it is a completely legitimate complaint.

Nah

Also, Wii Fit Trainer is no where near as stupid as Snake. Seriously. [radio edit] Snake.

"Why the [radio edit] does the character that masqueraded as Marth play just like Marth she shouldn't be here"

"[radio edit]ing Brawl why did they make Ganondorf more different from Captain Falcon/*inevitable complaining if WiiU/3DS Ganondorf is more unique*, change him back"

I bet these complaints are held by the same people.

I'm sure there will be some real differences between Marth and Lucina on a deeper fundamental level. Like...err...very slightly different damage output! 8D

TBH I plan to use her over Marth because <3 Lucina.

Different damage and different angles, most likely. I expect her damage to be somewhere between marth's tip and non-tip damage, and the angles to be whatever sakurai feels like (here's to hoping for another roy dtilt, because that move was great).

To be fair, I doubt that's why she's a clone.

I think what would be really awesome is if toggling her mask on/off change some of her properties, like Guile's sunglasses...but I doubt that will be a thing.

Oh my god, that's too good. And the hilarious thing is that there's a serious chance of that being their actual trailer since WarioWare and RH are made by the same team.

I, for one, would welcome a Ganondorf that actually does stuff he, y'know, does in the game. Designing him like that was lazy and stupid the first time around, and just because they've made poor design decisions in the past doesn't excuse poor design decisions in the present.

That said, I can understand why people who main him would be disappointed if they completely overhauled his moveset, rather than tweaking it in a different direction as they did before. It's not much different from the disappointment of your main not being included.

But they're sooooo annoyed by it when we have had clones before. And then they go on to say they wanted Chrom instead.

Though not completely the same. Marth needed to keep his distance for his sweet spot.

Snake was better than Wii Fit Trainer. Not a Nintendo thing, but at least he's a character and has moves that make sense.
I also just found out that the story mode was completely cut from this SSB because Sakurai was butthurt over cutscenes getting leaked onto the net. Yes, very old news. But just wow.

That's...exactly what I said the only difference was. But since Lucina deals damage with her whole blade, if you play her like you play Marth, you're still playing her properly. You're dealing your max damage regardless, you're just unnecessarily using the tip of the sword.

I don't understand why I'm not allowed to be irritated by clones, simply because they've existed before (to a lesser degree, but whatever). I've never not been irritated by clones. I main Lucas and Ness, and wish they were more different. It's why I love Project M's rendition of Lucas - he resembles Ness, but is very distinctly his own character.

Furthermore, they've indirectly acknowledged that clones are bad, by tweaking the clones throughout the series to produce more different characters. They dropped Pichu, Roy, and Dr. Mario, and then tweaked Ganondorf, Toon Link, and Falco to make them play differently from their originals. The "differences" between Marth and Lucina are so small that you could have introduced them as tweaks to Marth's playstyle, they're so minor.

Fox/Wolf and Mario/Luigi I think are good examples of "clones" - characters that, thematically, should be similar, but still play very differently. I think their original idea of having Lucina as an alternate skin of Marth was a much better idea.

But why? It barely used any development time at all, and a slight difference is better than no difference at all. I personally think they should just go ahead and add a lot of clones. I think Sakurai added 6 clones to Melee because he didn't have time for 1 new character? 6 clones sounds better than 1 new character to me, to be honest. As long as they're not taking up much development and they're characters that wouldn't have gotten their own movesets otherwise (and nobody ever expected Lucina to have her own moveset, I don't think she deserves that much effort put into her either).

Personally, I'd rather have taken the one newcomer over the numerous clones. Quality over quantity, after all.

Having said that, I do appreciate many like clones in the Smash fanbase and it's done for marketing purposes (Melee having 25 characters back in the day was well applauded from what I recall) as well as less dev time and resources. If Lucina wasn't in, I doubt anyone would take her place.

But as HJ said, more differences so she's more akin to Fox's Wolf wouldn't be a bad thing...
