Let's just wait and see what happens.

Robin is totally going to end up being my main. Doubly so if Ganondorf doesn't make it.

You really think Ganondorf will be cut? He better get his own moveset this time though, the villain of Zelda being a clone of Captain Falcon, ugh... They should also make Ganon playable (preferably not the TP version).

There is zero chance Ganondorf will be cut. I mean, why would they? Especially if Toon Link is in; to cut 'Dorf and leave Tink in would be outrageous. What I DO think (and hope) could happen, though, is his moveset changes and becomes more unique. Being a Captain Falcon clone is such a shame.

I reckon the Falcon moveset might stay; Sakurai apparently said during Brawl he didn't want to upset those who had grown accustomed to playing as him in Melee. I think it's still a huge discredit to his character and what-not, especially considering his moveset potential. Here's hoping he got the Bowser treatment!

More details on Robin's moveset, too!

Neutral B is Thunder; can be charge up to Elthunder, Arcthunder and eventually Thoron.
Side B is Arcfire.
Up B is Elwind.
Down B is Nosferatu.

I was under the assumption that since Elthunder, Arcthunder and Thoron are a thing that Fire, Elfire, Bolganone, Wind, Arcwind and Rexcalibur would make appearances, but it seems this is not the case. Nosferatu seems like it could potentially be overpowered, though. And in the trailer, it's worth noting Robin used Elwind twice in a row. Depending on how exactly their weapon usage works, Robin could well end up being preeeetty damn incredible.

Same reaction as Ryu, I was this close to hoping Robin meant Isaac, but this is still pretty damn cool.

Naturally disappointed that Lucina is basically a clone, but her presence is still awesome, and Robin is clearly bestowed an original move set, so hell yes. I was also anticipating the upgrades to the other tomes, but it's cool to think that they might be utilized in different ways. Thunder and its progressions for powerful horizontal attacks, it looks like Elwind is a good juggling tactic, and Nosferatu is a kind of risky close quarters move that both incapacitates and damages. Didn't get a good look at Arcfire's potential uses though.

Maybe Robin's FS will differ every now and then depending on what tome he's holding when you activate it? In the trailer it looks like he was floating around laying waste with Thoron (or Mjolnir?) while Chrom hacked away with Falchion.

Like, literally.

Apparently Lucina was added because they had to cut some other character for undisclosed reasons, and she was somebody they could easily make into a character quickly to fill up that slot. Best bet for that cut character would be Chrom obviously. Could possibly be Rayman too, since we just saw a trophy of him which makes no sense even being in this game as is.

Here's everything that I can glean from Robin's playstyle, based on all material we've seen so far:

  • The Levin Sword is activated by using a Smash attack. Robin can use Smash attacks in midair, which is a first. The Levin Sword will break after enough uses, after which Robin will switch back to using the Bronze Sword. All of Robin's moves can still be utilised with the Bronze Sword, but they will be weaker. The Levin Sword must go through a cooldown period after breaking before it can be used again.
  • Robin's standard AAA combo looks to make use of the Tomes; in the trailer we can see him do a dodge roll, then immediately follow it up with two standard sword swipes and then a Fire spell finisher, with good knockback. Later on in the trailer, we can see Robin holding the opponent in place with a flurry of wind blades, then finishing up with a sword swipe, sending them flying. This leads me to believe Robin's standard AAA combo will be influenced by his/her currently equipped Tome.
  • Robin's grab may also be influenced by Tome; during the trailer, we can see him holding Diddy in place with a light tornado, then tossing him to the other side. I think it's safe to assume that's Robin's grab; the question is if the other Tomes will have different effects?
  • As previously mentioned, Thunder can be charged up for Elthunder, Arcthunder and Thoron; this charge can be held, ala Lucario's Aura Sphere, Samus' Charge Shot, Donkey Kong's punch, etc. I think this means Thoron could potentially be a truly devastating move, especially in 4-player, as it's incredibly fast and powerful, as well as piercing through opponents.
  • Arcfire has similarities to PK Fire, but it travels on a downward trajectory. The larger flames might also suggest it's more powerful, but we'll have to see about that. It will also presumably have a larger radius of effect.
  • Elwind shoots two blades of wind downward, propelling Robin upward. Judging by screenshots, I think it's probably going to be able to be aimed to some degree, so it will very likely be an excellent edgeguarding technique as well as recovery.
  • Nosferatu will hold the opponent in place and damage them constantly, while healing Robin. This is apparently more powerful if you attack from behind with it. I fully expect the damage and recovery will be minimal, otherwise it'll be pretty overpowered. My money's on 1% dealt/recovered per hit, 2% max.
  • Robin's Fair (or possibly Nair) appears to just be a standard downward slash according to this picture. Pretty standard stuff.

So, questions to be asked...

  • Exactly how much more powerful is the Levin Sword? Will Robin still have reliable KO options with the Bronze Sword? How long is the Levin Sword's cooldown period?
  • How exactly will the Tomes work? Will they have a pre-determined number of uses? Will there be a tell that they've broken other than failing to use your move and potentially finding out too late? How will they recharge, and how long will it take? And what about Elwind; when that breaks, will Robin be left without a recovery? Perhaps just pulling out a different Tome by using a different special will recharge all the Tomes not in use? There are a lot of questions as to how this is going to work.
  • For that matter, if you're currently handling a broken Tome or not handling a Tome at all, how will that affect the aforementioned AAA combo and grab? I doubt they'll be disabled, so perhaps Robin has generic replacement animations for that, which are weaker? And for that matter, could I be wrong in my assumption in that your current Tome will affect your AAA and grab?

If I've missed anything, do point it out; I'm trying to pick apart Robin's playstyle as much as I can and even small things you might
have noticed will help.

Well, that out of the way, Robin looks to have a fantastic and unique playstyle, and I cannot WAIT to get my hands on the game to try him/her out. :D

I know, but we don't yet know if that's automatic or something you manually have to do when you know it's out.

I seriously can't think of any reason they'd require you to do it manually.

Well, in the trailer, it looked like it was discarded just like an item would be.
