Definitely picking up the 3DS version, because I am NOT going out and buying another console when I already have the handheld. Just...no. I may be betraying the company I grew up with, but in my opinion, I'm FAR happier with my launch day Wii. No need to get a new console for just one game.

That being said, I'm looking forward to trying to figure out Marth and Samus again, maybe give my best shot with one of the newer ones. Smash has always been that one fighter that I could never say no to...the fact that they've given us a portable version this time around is a nice step for them; we'll see if there's any other substantial differences between the console/handheld besides art style and an extra stage or so.

Wow suddenly this thread has way more posts

did you all want to play as your self insert/sword waifu that much?

Spoiler: click to toggle
I haven't even played Awakening, but Robin is most likely going to be one of my mains. I've been clamoring for more mage characters since the beginning.

Lucina's badass design guarantees I'll give her a chance. I'm certain she'll be one of those characters I'll always insist on playing despite sucking and never improving with her (for instance, despite repeated attempts to sit down and learn him, I can't Marth. I just can't.).

Like HJ said, Robin looks pretty interesting, too. Looking forward to trying him/her out.

I just want to be good with someone other than Mario. And Wolf, on occasion.

But Marth's one of the easier characters to get into the game (let alone improve) with - fast, strong, decent range...

The basis is spacing along with the range of his air game and grabs from what I've experienced.

Marth is basically the best character.

"Along with Robin, Lucina joins the battle!! Her physical ablilites are identical to Marth's--it must be in her D.N.A. However, where Marth's power is concentrated in the tip of the sword, Lucina's attack strength is balanced throughout the weapon, which might make her easier to control. She's also a little bit shorter than Marth.

With the Wii Fit Trainers, the male and female Robins, the Villagers, and Little Mac, varying their appearances and voices works just like selecting alternate color variations. However, whenever there is even a small difference in abilities, that character gets an actual roster slot. That is why you can select Lucina individually."

Verification that she's essentially Marth without the tipper with her own character slot.

So she's basically a clone. Can't have Smash without clones!

(I'm still glad she's in the game before someone yells at me)

Even if she was exactly the same Lucina's still better than Marth anyways

rofl that's amazing

Also huh, I didn't expect Lucina to have any real differences. Neat at least.

Probably maining Lucina, (for waifu all years). Although her strength is in the entire sword which makes it sound like she'll be easier to play. Which is fine, but people like to talk trash because they're assholes.

I actually find that marth is one of the harder characters to play well. His style is distinctly different from the rest of the cast, and if you try to play him like he's mario or sheik or something, you'll prob get destroyed. It requires a different mindset. Fundamentals are still really important for him, of course, and you'll never get anywhere with him without them, but he has some unique restrictions in exchange for his unique strengths.

Lucina might end up being easier to play for someone that doesn't play marth, depending on what sakurai ends up doing with her hitboxes. Or she might just end up being a second roy (as in, bad).

edit: To elaborate what I mean by marth's "restrictions" (at least melee marth, anyway), he has two main weaknesses: 1) if he doesn't land a tipper, a lot of his moves are unsafe, and 2) he cannot expect to win by simply building up damage on stage and then KOing the opponent.

more detail

Oh, and before someone mentions brawl, brawl marth is a different beast entirely. All of his tippers have a lot more power (including fair, which limits his combo game a lot), so he has an easier time getting kills at high percent. And since absolutely no one should ever be in point-blank range in brawl to begin with, his first weakness is really just a strength (although he does still lack long-lasting aerials).

>Lucina has the mark of Naga in her eye

'dat attention to detail

Marth isn't one of my mains but I can see myself sticking with Lucina since I like her a lot in Awakening. Of course, I said the same thing about Ike when Brawl came out and didn't like how he played. (“・ω・)つ These two should be much closer though.

I love how Charizard is Medeus. 10/10

It's nice to see Lucina has SOME differences, at least. Better than being a straight copy/paste.

I guess it's just that he doesn't "click" with me, despite his advantages. It might sound strange, but he's almost too fast for me to properly handle. If I could get used to his speed, as well as his air game, I could probably get a good handle on him. I think Leaf puts it pretty well in regards to how he requires a different approach.

Also, Lucina being 95% clone is such a shame.
