Hello, everyone! It's almost that time of year again for Belinsk, the Temple of Kraden's annual Arts Festival. Before it starts, I just want to do a quick survey of the kind of stuff you'd like to see. This is your opportunity to shape what will happen on the forum, so please weigh in! To check previous years/get a feel for it, you can look at the forum found here. "What is Belinsk?" If anyone is interested in hosting a contest or running a panel, please PM me letting me know, as well as a description of what you'd like to do! Now, back to the point at hand: what would you like to see in this year's Belinsk? Are there things from previous years you think we can improve on? What do you like the most about Belinsk? The least (and how can we fix it)? Any other questions/comments/suggestions? If you'd like to help out backstage and do organization stuff, PM me as well and I can add you to the forum! |

Did anyone ever figure up if we are gonna cross this over with GSL to make it a competition? |

...how can that be fairly judged? Unless it's a point-based distribution, you'd end up with one site getting more judges than the other for a given event. |

I dunno, we can put our collective heads together and come up with something, though. I know I'm relatively new to it but as for the events; last year was pretty well done imo. |

Fairly easily. Like I said, judging is usually anonymous, and conducted by people who aren't participants. Each entry is ranked first to last (depending on the system), and each as assigned a weight -- then averaged between the judges. So the judges could be from either site, as well as the entrants, and it wouldn't matter (ideally -- someone could always leak info, but that would be in poor taste). Is that what you were thinking of, Leaf? Also, re:co-operation in general, I think I'd like to leave it up to each individual contest host if they want to open it up to cross-site stuff. We could make a few contests specifically for cross-site things, but I'm not sure how that would be different from a regular contest (anyone is welcome to join, of course). We can work out some hype things if we can think of them. Alternatively, any GSL people would be welcome to enter any contest (we usually submit through PM, so they'd have to join), and then afterwards we could tally up all placements (so coming first of six would get you six points, first of three would get you three, maybe? we can refine the system later) and see how GSL scored. Or whatever system. More generally, I think rather than cross-site competition, we can perhaps think about it as cross-site community -- so rather than "winning" or "losing," the goal would be simply meeting new people and seeing the kind of talent we have around the interwebs. And likewise, our talent being shown to new people. If we want to work out a competitive framework within that it would be easy enough, but I think that should be the focus (feel free to disagree!) We definitely have GS in common, so the myriad of GS-themed contests should work well. =) Oh oh, how about "write a plot outline for how GS4 should go?" Then we'll send them all to Camelot. 8D |

Yeah, I think stuff Happened last year, which led to that kind of stuff Not Happening. So that's an easy enough one to fix -- Chrissy has already been roping people into a voice chat to hear him sing, so it's basically that but with more people. And maybe have them with more spontaneity, or maybe once a week in July? So we can try to get as many people as possible. |

I mentioned this briefly last year, but I would like to see a bigger emphasis on 'community' over 'arts' - which is not to say, nix all the creative forum stuff, but rather, have some events/activities that people who don't consider themselves to be traditionally creative or artistic can participate in. Maybe some Skype games, or like, that random fact quiz thing I did last year, which I can always do again if people are willing to submit a second random fact about themselves ...? And broadening the artist/community spotlight thing to include other projects, such as gaming streams, or whatever people work on in their own time that may not traditionally be considered 'art'. This is mostly for the benefit of the multiple people I talked to last year who either felt excluded or imposed their own isolation from anything to do with Belinsk, because it was seen to be cliquey, or self-indulgent, or mastubatory, or just because they didn't consider themselves to be artistic - so, if what I'm suggesting this doesn't seem like it's going to assuage any of those concerns (either in theory, or in practice because people say 'I'm really just going to ignore Belinsk anyway'), then feel free to let it drop. Also, I'm trying to think up some good panel ideas, but don't have any so far. |

Belinsk is something I enjoy participating in, but it seems a shame that there are so few entrants in many of the categories. Maybe to boost entries in the Best Golden Sun Story category, it could be changed to the Best Fanfiction category instead? Of course, that might be an issue if the judges don't know about the various fandoms... But maybe they could be asked to focus on overall quality of writing. I doubt this would apply to me, of course, since if I participate it would likely be a GS fic. But others might get a chance to enter something this year that's not GS and not original, and I do like competition. The same could be said for the OC Character category. Despite the Temple being based around GS, I'm sure some people would much rather bring their ideas from other fandoms forward. |

I'd like to see this too, and it'd be great if there could also be more interaction between the two "types" of events and stuff, in a way that it's not going to just be cliquey and divided again. The idea behind Belinsk has always been for it to be a community festival and it'd be cool if we could integrate more of that aspect in. Part of that -- especially to people who are either new users or haven't participated in the past, if you've got an idea, even if it doesn't seem to fit into the theme, or if you'd like to be running something, please please let us know! We're still talking about how things should be run behind the scenes, which mostly involves the organization and such, but when it comes to the events and the ideas, new ones are what keep this going, and keep it fresh and fun for everyone. As just a heads up, look forward to either an upcoming topic or a skype chat (or both!) where we can have some more discussion about what we can do together this year! That's going to be open to anybody interested. |

"Day of the Eclipse" General rules: Draw a picture depicting a scene in an area hit by the Grave Eclipse. Pictures can focus on the landscape or characters/creatures in the affected area. Story and fictional scenarios are allowed. Official characters/creatures in the picture should be from Golden Sun Dark Dawn's point in time. Oooh, that could be interesting. What do you mean by "stories and fictional scenarios"? Do you mean that the pictures can have a story accompanying them, or that a story is also a valid submission? |

I probably should've used canon and fictional. Canon would be something that happens in the area of the eclipse during the story, such as the opera house incident. Fiction would be anything that you want to happen in the area affected by the eclipse, such as a group of monsters cosplaying as the Warriors of Vale. The entry would be the picture, but a short description could go with it to explain what is happening. |
