Whether this warrants its own thread is up for Kraden to decide. Me, I just watch the animus. *This space reserved for liveblogs of Episodes 1-3, which I will be transplanting here shortly* Episode 4

Yeah, I don't think the anime covers this, but her parents died in a car crash that would have killed her, as well, but a certain someone showed up~ And then, like a dumbass, Mami only wished to save herself. |

How did I forget this? I suppose her self-sufficiency - accentuated when Madoka returns to her apartment - took me by surprise, so much so that I forgot the show had acknowledged her parents at all. Also, I suppose that's what happens when you wait so long between episodes. XP |

*Jenna with Teeth, as Adna calls her. And yes, Sayaka is an amazing unit And oooh, you've studied the uncanny as well? Yeah, there's definitely a lot of the unheimlich going on in Madoka. :3 EDIT: Yeah, anime covers that in ep 3, Kyle. |

You can definately chalk that cinematography as well as all manner of enlightenment, renaissance, goetic accentuation up to Shaft's director being awesome, Asphy. Which is odd considering the rest of Shaft's pedigree, but hey, beggars, choosers. (As you well know, being an obv. trigger fan). |

The end-of-semester crunch is real. Or was. I managed to marathon 5 through 7 a couple weeks back, though! ![]() These are still live impressions, except where noted. Episode 5 BRB getting episode 6 notes.
The director has done a fantastic job with this series, yeah. Everything just clicks, aesthetically-speaking (the character art-style notwithstanding). Although in regards to the bolded: it's been two weeks and I still haven't figured out what you meant by that. =P |

re: Hitomi the overachiever There's a scene early series where Hitomi says she has to go, and Sayaka teases her "What is it today? Judo? Piano lessons?" and Hitomi answers "No, tea ceremony." Then Sayaka goes "Man, being rich must suck." I think it might've been episode 1, even. Unless it wasn't. *popcorn.gif* It'll be interesting how your impression of Kyouko changes. |

Ehehehe. Looking forward to the next post. Also, yeah, it's episode one, and it's Japanese dance, not judo, I think. Hitomi's mentioned as an honours student in at least the supplementary materials. Drama CD 1 has some stuff about that.

An interesting thing to note is that this might not be a trope of the medium, but of Japanese culture in general. I'm fairly certain I've see this in Japanese video games, and people who watch live-action Japanese stuff might be able to confirm/deny it as well. |

That was mostly me going "if you love trigger's amazing cinematography and dynamic animation you have to put up with the over the top fanservice" as KLK illustrated nicely.

Oh, okay! Kill la Kill's actually the only Trigger work I've seen so far (though I'm no stranger to Imaishi productions), so maybe that's why I was a bit confused. But yeah, I know what you mean now. And yeah, HJ, it wouldn't surprise me if it were a cultural thing; I swear I've seen examples of that kind of name-repetition in other Japanese works, but I can't remember anything specific (both were live-action productions...and in fact, I think even Golden Sun does it at one point?). Which makes my complaint even more petty. =P |
