Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

Heathcliff is Kirito's BFF4lyfe so he doesn't count.

So Simple, having seen SAO's Heathcliff, would you say he's bad news?

Odyssey, ya see~ Odyssey, ya see~

I just caught up on the last update. That ending.

pls

EDIT: Also Iunno, while the fighting choreography itself seems great from the stills/occasional gifs, things like the lack of a health bar hurt the scenes for me because it removes a sense of tension. Kind of like all style with no substance.

also you know

Well Schmittles, now you know what Tonkii looks like.

And wow. This episode. Why.

yaaaaaaaaay~

He's EVERYTHING I'd hoped he would be.
Completely absurd.

I'm thinking this show works better in a just-for-fun setting than the usual serious one. ^^

Excellent commentary as always, Simple. You do a great job of mixing the comedic reactions with thoughtful contextualization and critique of the themes, tying it to handling in different texts and addressing what the underlying issue is. Especially in this post's analysis of trauma, I get the same feeling as from scholarly articles, where even if I don't know the source material, the analysis is engaging and informative, feels tied to experience and real-world issues, and I can walk away feeling as if I learned something.

I actually cringed at Kirito's "intervention" and gagged out an "oh my god" in a pained kind of way. Especially the "“It may hurt you, but I couldn’t just ignore you.“" line. Because again, it seems to be all about Kirito's egotism and Messiah complex rather than Sinon as an autonomous person.

Incidentally, I actually found Penguindrum's handling of trauma to be also distasteful and heavy-handed, but not having seen SAO first-hand I can't speak to them comparatively so. I'm sure SAO was worse, but that was one of my main problems with Penguindrum as well.

Kirito going and telling people Sinon doesn't even know all about her past is [radio edit]ing creepy

Thanks Poui.

So many people are going to be struggling with a friend who has had a traumatic experience and are going to be inspired by this show to take action.

And it will be horrible and backfire in 90% of the cases, or more.

Rip.

I agree with Satty in that your assessment and analysis of trauma and how it should be displayed was very well written. The scary thing is that like Kirito, there was a time where I figured I could have fixed things for people and it's a shame the show doesn't try to make the audience realise how flawed this is, especially as it's an audience that could definitely benefit from some insight into handling mental illnesses and past traumas.

Was the arc essentially trying to make me care for Kirito by showing how helpful he is to Shinon? Because I'm still not a fan of him.

Episodes 15-17: Caliburn

This is more of my overall thoughts on the arc. Episode 18 will return to the regular format and should be up within an hour.

EDIT: Episode 18: Forest House

on Caliburn...
Yeah, it was pointless, but I honestly think I enjoyed it the most of any of the anime arcs. The way that the anime represents the source material just seems to lend itself better to this kind of care-free story imo.
And besides, Tonki was even better than I ever imagined. ^_^
Though, there's a couple points I'd like to address as to why some things were the way they were (LN & next story "spoilers" I guess? whatever)

on Ep 18...
I rofl'd at "could only use 100% of his skill rather than 200%!"
