The first half had a large guild levying taxes on the Town of Beginnings as some sort of payment for protecting them or some shit (or perhaps as a reward for having control of the area), and in this case the taxes are levied when the target race's leader dies. It's revealed later that there's an option to change races in a future patch. I just don't see how that could end well.

Kirito will obviously prove her wrong within 15 seconds of her saying that. - okay more like 30 because the salamanders are dumb and don't fight straightaway. Nevertheless, here's a shot of Kirito saving the day! - Leafa, when trying to explain this to her race leader: "All I can say is that our fate rests in his hands" - "I am Kirito, an ambassador for the Spriggan-Undine alliance." This causes CASSIVE MONFUSION with the salamanders because apparently there's no way to accurately identify someone in this MMO. Man, this game just gets shittier and shitter. Besides... - Whoop, we're gonna fight now! Since we're up against the godlike Kirito, let's make our challenger the strongest player in ALO. That way when we beat him effortlessly, no one will be able to stop him! - But first, we need to establish the raw power and length... and girth... and hardness... of his legendary demon sword Garm. Ughhh, so big... - "How generous of you" - We may be race leaders, girls, but it's up to these men to decide our fates! So let's just stand here and explain everything because it'll make us look sexier. - Apparently Garm can phase through enemy weapons at will in order to slash at people directly. How unreasonable! He OBVIOUSLY doesn't deserve to have that kind of advantage over Kirito! - Kirito then complains that it's been 30 seconds since they started fighting, but our general seems to have changed his mind on the fly! How unreasonable! He OBVIOUSLY doesn't deserve to have that kind of power when Kirito doesn't! - Now this guy starts winning against Kirito. How unreasonable! He OBVIOUSLY doesn't deserve to win against Kirito! - Now Kirito's gonna use some of that lame Spriggan magic that obviously doesn't help him win fights. Gee, I wonder how he's gonna win this time. - It's during this smokescreen that he snatches Sugufa's sword in the most cleavage-disrupting manner possible. It also leads to the greatest animation feat this show has offered to us thus far: Seriously. Come on. Not only does the shot start off with Leafa's gigantic, wedged ass, we see her groping her own butt until finally snapping her own spine in shock. - The dust clears and we get the most contrived mini-conflict in existence, leading Sugufa to begin worshipping the second coming of Digital Jesus. - AND SO IT IS PROPHESIZED THAT DIGITAL JESUS WILL TOTALLY OWN THIS NUB FGT WITH GOD'S GIFT TO MMOs: DUAL WIELDING. AND ALSO BED HIS MOTHER THRICE OVER AND THERE WILL BE A WAILING AND GNASHING OF TEETH - This battle is actually the most fluidly animated sequence in this anime so far. Even if there's derpfaces galore, the animation is nothing to scoff at. The whole flying thing is still woefully unrealized, though. - What's not shown in this shot of capable women standing around waiting for the battle to be over is the fact that he boobs bounced when she swung her fan up like that. - kirito so gud he gain respct from evil salamndr. - Anyways, the threat is over and now let's talk about the real mastermind, Sigurd! Damn him and his power-hungry tendencies! Look at how evil he is! LOOK AT HIM. - Ah yes, we're gonna do this. SAO pls. - SAO pls - pls stahp - "I told you cheating's not allowed, Papa!" - Not an obvious metaphor for Kirito and Asuna. - we metal gear now my brain
