Since tractor beamz is determine to prevent us from having nice things and/or paranoia, I nominate we tract proof the temple and hide the concerning our temple forum, temple forum and possibly the misc forums apart from GD and PG from members with less than 100 posts. DEBATE CHALLENGE: Is this a bad idea? |

We can indeed do this. So we could have one group that auto-promotes after however many posts. We can also say that you need that many posts before joining a Clan, to prevent someone from auto-jumping. Actually, I think I like that system, lorewise. What does everyone else think? |

I suppose the question to ask in regards to Tract is "Does this actually prevent Tract from being a problem, or only make it more difficult for him?" Because if it doesn't prevent him from being a problem completely, it effectively does absolutely nothing. |

Hmmm I like this idea. Have to make sure it doesn't alienate people, though, but I like it a lot. EDIT: Even if it only makes things more difficult for him to be a nuisance, I think it's a good idea. Not pointless at all. It's actually being proactive. It might stop a few things, and that's good enough. |

Well, forcing accounts to post increases the chances of us being able to detect an account. When it comes to stuff like voting in Board awards, this seems totally okay to implement. The downside otherwise would be that it creates an atmosphere of distrust for new users, not being able to access the majority of the forum until 100 posts. So I am against that kind of breadth. |

Concerning Our Temple would need to have Introductions open, or it just gets stupid. I can see Life/Support being hidden by default. Maybe Clan Commons. Of course, as Steve points out, this might just be a speed-bump if he was really determined. More important, I think, is what kind of thing this might present to actual new members. |

Yeah, Lach raises my main point. Having Tract allegedly rig the board awards or not is irrelevant; making the Temple less welcoming for new users would be far worse. |

Your perspective is biased satay, you're coming from this knowing what is being changed and given up (which is largely Temple activity forums that Tract has a shot at wrecking), the main socialization forums (where most of the forum activity happens day to day) are availible at the beginning. Think of seeing art and stuff as your reward for sticking around and being social. I personally think someone's going to stay. lurk, or leave by ten posts. The former opens them up to mod scrutiny if they're Tract, the latter is irrelevant. The middle one is where he works and where we'll stop him. |

Before this thread goes too far I'd like to kindly point out that Tract would probably love the idea of us being as paranoid as possible toward new members because of him. Not sure how exactly that will apply here, but something to keep in mind. Also that he probably loves all this undue attention we're giving him by simple virtue of this thread existing, but eh. |

Could we not just ban new users with less than 100 posts from doing things like voting in the awards? Otherwise give them the same amount of privileges as usual? Also can you not IP ban people? |

Changing your IP is so simple that IP banning wouldn't be effective against the kind of determined pettiness we're dealing with, unfortunately. |

considering Tract was able to post multiple thousands of messages in a matter of minutes once, I don't think any kind of postcount gate would help anything. |

That is only if he decided to go and 'attack the temple. Most of the time like the recent account he had, he been just lurking and making attention grabbing post. Or simply have 100 post to join a clan / vote for ToK Awards. I don't see the point of hiding anything forums from the newbies. (and while maybe 100 post isn't much for you guys, but 100 post is a lot for someone who mainly lurk the forums.) and yes. I can clearly envision Tract getting absolute giddy over us 'proofing' the forum from his attack. |

I'm against anything that would make it even harder for new friends to integrate themselves into Temple culture. We're paranoid and insular enough.
