Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

Adna's point about the music being overused is an interesting one, actually. Part of it sums up why a lot of western shows -and- movies bore me, partially: the music, if it's present at all, is usually quite simple and repetitive, or just songs borrowed wholesale from other artists (woot, advertising)! There's not always room for originality or a memorable score, excepting things like The Lord of the Rings. And even that I'd argue is even more overused, since it makes use of a handful of motifs/themes in variations and repeats them in Wagnerian fashion to build associations.

So that generic "lush" I guess that you're isolating is one of the things that keeps me artistically satiated in anime. Because not only am I getting the world presented and told in a creative, extra-ordinary way, I'm hearing it differently as well.
However, this might be that I usually just hear a lot of bad western OSTs, and am comparing it to good anime soundtracks. But then I'd have no thesis to argue. :awe:
Nah, I think you're speaking for most of western and anime OSTs. I'd say most of the western OSTs I've heard try to be unobtrusive by employing simple music that doesn't really stand out, it just compliments the atmosphere outside of insert songs. Ofcourse you have exceptions like LotR, Star Wars and any musicals but for the majority, that isn't the case.

Anime osts on the other hand, typically use themes to represent characters or conflicts and as such feature catchier melodies. I actually love when a good OST does this cause it immerses you in the story/characters much more and it's one of the things a show can bring to the table that you don't get while reading a book. Not that it's uncommon to have insert songs in anime as well, and there's also plenty of borrowing classical pieces in some series(Madoka being an example) too.

As a slight aside, I saw Gravity the other week, and I actually think it would have been a stronger movie without music - partly because of the whole "there's no sound in space" thing, and partly because of the way the movie is styled. Soundtracks are often an emotional crutch, but every now and again you get a soundtrack that tells a story on its own.

I'd rather be outside.

It's funny because anime has no artistic merit.

I thought it was a pretty apparent joke.

I don't think you can ever prepare it for Adnarel's huge, throbbing criticisms.

It may well be overrated, and I'm worried I may have overrated it for Madnarel. I think his natural biases should cancel out my hype, though. :awe:

Putting biases and hype together is multiplicative, though.

So really, your hype will just make his opinion even more negative.
