I noticed even the retouched version still has some slack animation moments, but yeah. If Adnarel really needs realism proportions, I guess Fate/Zero has slightly more realistic proportions... It's definitely a valid criticism of the anime style, but for me, if I want to see real proportions, I'll look in a mirror or step outside. I get enough of real proportion in real life, I don't require it in my art as well. The closest (strawman) analogy I can think of is "man why would you use effects on your instruments, that's not natural." "Why have electricity, that's not natural (people used to say this, but now it's normalized). |

Yeah, typically series with older protagonists like Fate Zero, GitS and such have more realistic eye-to-face ratio. I don't mind the anime style at all either, sure the art-style is simplistic but it doesn't detract from you being able to see what the character looks like or what their body language is conveying. It's kinda like how with impressionism you don't have to see rich detail to figure out what something is, and you can still appreciate it for what it is instead of going "oh, that's crap, it's not super realistic-looking" or whatever. |

Did anyone actually think it would be a good idea to get him to watch Madoka? Half of the punch of the anime comes from people familiar with and explecting the standard look/feel of a magical moe blob anime. The other parts of the punch are Homura and the witch world art direction. |

But that doesn't really perish the thought, does it? Personally, my aversion to certain artistic styles is much more of an unconscious reaction than a careful analysis, and when it comes to that point it's kind of hard to ignore it, especially if it's an animated series. |

I've learned to ignore it in cases like that. I actually found Madoka's artstyle kinda weird at first(their faces being kinda too wide) but I got used to it after a couple of episodes. |

I'm not sure why you would ever watch anything animated and expect realistic art. I really can't think of any that have it, eastern or western. Archer, maybe? |

Episode 4 "Today I want to express my strongest doubts concerning the melodrama form. It is the most awkward, most stupid art form that I know." - Richard Strauss, composer, 1917 Today's episode was brought to you by attributes of Cluster B personality disorders. Our heroine, Madoka, will be demonstrating Borderline Personality Disorder for us today! Watch as she floods Tokyo with tears, and causes the level of the ocean to rise a few inches (closer to the Snack Bar). Pink Hair only knew Crepe Paper Hair for a few episodes, and only well for one of those episodes, and now the waterworks are on for literally the entire episode. Resultantly: what an awkward, stupid episode. Thank sweet baby Kraden that Sayaka decided to have a little bit of character development, otherwise this would have been an utter waste of 20 minutes. Really, this was her episode. We learn about Boy in Hospital and how he may motivate Sayaka. I still think that Sayaka's cavalier behavior is setting her up for her own episode of waterworks, and I still think she is going to die before the series is up, but I do not think it will be at the hands of Girl with Food who was introduced at the very end of the episode. Speaking of Girl with Food, why do all animu characters have fangs? There was a close-up of her grin, and I saw a ridiculous fang in her mouth. Like, I realize that all people have carnissal teeth. Must they be so overemphasized, though? I feel like 90% of animu mouths could be that of a vampire. [radio edit]. Anyway, back to Sayaka. It was a good episode for her, and I'm glad that I'm not going to be watching her spam rifles all over the place like Mami did. I guess that's all I really wanted to say about that. Lachesis, this next bit is for you. I paid special attention to the music tonight for your sake. I thought it was overused. In particular, there's one scene where the girls are sitting on top of the school during what I presume is lunch, and are talking about how it feels like they're living in a foreign country. At one point, one of them says something important, and the music pauses - silence replaces the quasi-fantasy bowl of porridge soundtrack that had been playing. I thought it would be a great moment for the incessant music to halt while we hear the characters talk serious stuff. Instead, the bowl of porridge music came back, with more of it than before. It ruined what could have potentially been a really good moment. I didn't hear the Bach 2-part invention again this episode, which was too bad. They picked a good one, or it's a good imitation. I don't know which. If the remainder of the episodes are idiotic melodramas like this one was, I'm going to be forced to conclude that I am, indeed, always right about everything. Especially right about this show being no less of a maudlin vomit comet than any other annie may in the universe. *bombs a few orphanages* *hunts orangutans to extinction* *cancels Christmas* Peace out, yo. |

If you do decide to watch, you have to make it through episode 3. edit: though I guess you're getting some hardcore spoilage in this thread. |

Go watch it necare. Watch it along with adna and you can both give your responses to the eps~ Anyway, if I was gonna introduce an anime to someone that doesn't like anime, I would probably introduce them to Monster. As an older anime, the proportions are more realistic, and it's set in europe, so it's more westernized than most anime. And it has a killer plot. ...
