Skylin, just do what I do Watch anime targeted towards 8-year-olds constantly. Eventually you'll be completely desensitized to whatever people might think about you and what you watch. |

Stereotypes generally either come from a vocal minority, and thus are usually inaccurate, or from a majority truth, and thus are usually accurate. That doesn't make them true, either one, on an individual level, though, nor should they be taken as such. Stereotypes don't mean "every person in this category has these qualities", they're a generalization, either true or false. It's a stereotype to say that college students like to drink. That doesn't mean every college student does. |

"Weird" is defined as a divergence from the norm. If the norm is to not like a certain thing, liking it is then "weird." Within this community, I would say liking anime is considered "normal," but within say... a fantasy football community, liking anime would be considered "weird." edit: Jeez this thread is moving fast. This was supposed to be in reply to sky's post on the last page. |

You already watch "normal" anime. Children's cartoons are hardly any stupider. |

I'm always like this. I watch basically the most shitty, lowbrow shows even by anime standards and enjoy them. It really puts things into perspective. It's also why I'm allowed to call other people weeaboos. |

It's interesting that you say this, because I've never seen a group of people or community desire to be accepted as 'normal' or 'mainstream' more than anime fans. (Speaking generally, not just here at ToK). I'm not sure why that is, when other less popular/mainstream hobbies don't necessarily have that desire. For instance, I don't see that desire expressed nearly as often in say kpop communities as I do in anime communities. But yeah, I agree that we could all benefit from accepting our own 'weirdness'. (Or 'uniqueness' to use a word with a more positive connotation). Also, this comment was only 30-40 minutes ago but I'm waaaaaay late responding to it. |
