Do you think the show would've been better if, instead of the flashback episode, the series were longer and showed things from the beginning of Homura's wish? |

Do you think that if it hadn't jived with your worldview (i.e. being a Christ story, etc.) you wouldn't have "enjoyed" it? |

I don't think you understand how anime topics work at the Temple. Um, let's see, someone already asked about timelines and Homura's POV, so... Oh! Homura and Madoka. Just friends?

Serious question, I guess: Do you think the age of the girls worked against them? Would having them older or younger have changed the experience significantly to you? |

Imagining right now a middle-aged Mami somersaulting around pulling rifles out of her panties. |

watching the madoka movies, so I'll get some running commentary here. spoilers obviously Just in solidarity with you, Adna. I can kinda see where you're coming from on the melodrama thing, because initially the whole Sayaka-witch thing is over apparently very minor issues, buuuut again it's more what they represent that's significant. |

No. >_> It's one show that was 75% bullshit. Not a really great grade there, but it's better than what I expected it to be, which was 100% bullshit. Again, I thought it was an excellent ending arc, and it made me wish they didn't screw around early on with silly conventional animu stuff. But Ulta, all of the characters in the show were western! This is an interesting question. You're asking me to transplant a character from another story, multiverse, and culture into this show. After giving it some thought, I think I'd pick Charles Wallace from Madeline L'Engle's Time Quartet books. He started out as a pure soul, tasted corruption and temptation in a few books, and emerged as being a pure soul. I'd like to see how he would color the interactions between personalities and how he would view the role of the Incubators and Witches in general. My pulse picked up during all that. It was the moment (or series of moments) during which I eventually thought to myself, holy shit, this story is actually real and they're finally getting to it. What if I end up liking this? Shit. I didn't fight for very long, though, because the unfolding drama was extremely compelling, and the notion of Homura getting to try over and over again to succeed in her goal has great poetic and artistic merit. It was also in that moment that I began to really appreciate how the show writers made the ghosts of each character's wish come back to haunt her in some way, or cause her downfall. The exception to this was Mami, whose overall behavior and demise had little to do with her wish. In short, episode 10 was the one that convinced me that the show wasn't a steaming pile of weeaboo shit. Aside from the cute circular reasoning this is intentionally throwing out, I agree with the sentiment. I think an apt illustration would be any urban center in America. Families of low socioeconomic status are more likely to be apathetic, undereducated, and fearful of the world about them. As a result, their neighborhoods become dilapidated, bereft of good schools, and scary. To me, this would be the ideal way of presenting this show. Or an even better way would be to show how Madoka became such a badass Magical Girl in the first place, and then introduce Homura. That way the series would be more explicit about Madoka's being a puppet of Homura, and we'd get the satisfaction of watching how it affects both girls. Then, at the end of the arc, we'd see Madoka's return to glory in her wish, and how it ends with Homura with their scene in that higher plane. It'd make for a lot more holistic and dramatic story as a whole. In short, it's a good idea. I would have enjoyed it, but not in the same way that it did. When a form of entertainment resonates with one's own philosphy, that's a valid reason to like it more than something that does not resonate. For example, there's a movie of Akira Kurosawa's called Dreams. It is completely eastern in bent and philosophy. It is my all-time favorite movie due to its music, imagery, cinematography, and lack of traditional forms of dialogue. One of my favorite sequences in that movie is the [title=Was looking for this on YouTube but can't find it :(]Peach Orchard[/title] scene. It has nothing to do with my worldview, but it's a feast for the eyes, ears, and emotions. This movie is freaking awesome, but I liked Episode 12's Madoka is a Goddess sequence more because of the self-annihilating sacrifice and dearly-bought love it expresses. I didn't really spend a lot of time thinking about the ages of the girls in this show. You idiots have convinced me that age means nothing in animu, so I didn't pay it any heed. |

He just acts prickly for the reactions, Sky. And uses anime as a scapegoat for some things. It's best to just shake your head, and understand that's why he's (last time I checked) winning Worst Opinions. >_> |

I think a lot of pacing issues were because this was Magia team's first real anime with no prior resources to draw upon, right? |

Was reading The Different Story recently, and I wonder if Adnarel might have reacted better to that in some ways than to the main series. Not that I'd make him read it at this point, but there are probably pros to it that would make it more bearable to him.
