Episodes 8-9 The Universe is powered by PMS. This has come very close to completely deflating my interest in the show. |

Adnarel pls, emotions are the energy which drives this universe and courage is the magic which turns dreams into reality, how do you not know this?
I love when no one notices that something is spoilers until someone points out that it's spoilers. |

I honestly am not sure which way the next episode is going to take your feelings for the show. But I can't wait to find out.

I want to know if he hates it because it's derivative crap of a Byronic tragedy (i.e. he's treating it as media on its own merits) or because it's expected animu garbage (i.e. more cultural elitism). |

Probably the latter. I mean, the fact that anime prizes emotional experience so highly is one of the reasons why I like it, as opposed to the forced and artificial "realism" you see in a lot of western media, where there's a defined psychological split between the internal and the external, so you get the "rational" and "empirical" tradition of the Enlightenment still largely determining art even hundreds of years later. Compare how often characters cry in Malory and medieval lit to like, anything after. The idea that emotions aren't something to be ashamed of, that they aren't a sign of weakness but are in fact a sign of strength is one of my main interests in anime. That Adnarel had such a visceral and vitriolic reaction is disappointing to me. Given how much Malory values emotional penitence and suffering as key to salvation, I though he would be more open. I'll take a bet for the ragequit side. |

Actually, the high emotions in anime get on my nerves at times too. I understand, though, like you say, that it's a convention of the genre, just as, say, bursting into song is a genre convention of musicals, so I filter my viewing of anime through that knowledge, but I do understand why it can be annoying if someone doesn't bother to do so.

Well, there's like moeshit, and it's problematic when only one gender has "emotionality" and the other one is "zomg2stoic4u," but I think Madoka is one that genuinely does it well. Oh well. Onto better things. |

This is a [radio edit]ing soap opera melodrama. Jesus hell. It's like you can't be a mature adult without either dying like Jenna with Teeth or being an emotionless shell, like Homura. |
