Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

I feel like middle schoolers aren't the standards we should aspire to. >_>
Looking at it backwards. Things like this are supposed to get LESS strict as you grow up, not more.

Are you gonna get in trouble for saying "hell" in college?

No, but we also become more aware of the socio-political implications of our words, and how they don't exist in a vacuum but in relation to a wider society. I drop occasional f-bombs when I teach, but I definitely wouldn't use fuzzy little man-peachgot/:nigel:/etc in the classroom.

You're the teacher, you have to be "professional"

If I was a student, I totally would if I actually talked to people.

If you took my class, you would talk. :I Because I will sit down beside quiet groups/people and ask them questions and discuss things to get them to talk.

Pretty much what I was thinking.

That doesn't really apply to me since I never [radio edit]ing shut up in class and my teachers usually get sick of me trying to raise my hand and being a know-it-all though. It's still awkward whenever they try to force people to participate though.

As a quiet student, I appreciate it when professors reach out during, like, group work and stuff, but I hate being put on the spot in front of the entire class.

Yeah, it's during groupwork. I only call someone out if they're already looking at me and have that "I have something to say but I don't want to be seen as a keener for saying it" expression.

Thank you for that, as well. I love it when professors do that. It's how I've gotten most of my participation this semester.

Sound the horn and call the cry: "How many of them can we make die?"

So :nigel: filters to :nigel: now?

I am okay with this. Because unlike retag, it's funny.

Yes, fuzzy little man-peach is a filter from a certain word often used as a slur against homosexuals.

Just out of interest, is it more prevalent in the USA then in the UK? It's a known slur here, but it's normally used to refer to a cigarette than anything else.

It's only used to refer to a cigarette as a joke. It exclusively means "gay person" here, and with an entirely negative* connotation. Also easily the most prevalent of homosexual slurs. Unlike "gay", it doesn't really have an alternate slang meaning, either; it's only used in regards to sexuality.

*with the exception of an endearing term used between friends, like pretty much any insulting word.

Certain parts of the Internet (4chan) use it in the same way as friends do as well--someone who makes art is a "drawfuzzy little man-peach," someone who's European is a "eurofuzzy little man-peach," etc. That's where the use of "Touhoufuzzy little man-peach" to refer to Touhou fans around here comes from, I believe.

Though it's debatable how much that is "endearing."

Ringtaile also uses it to describe himself, but he's pretty confident when it comes to such things. xP
