I wouldn't control their thoughts, and only actions if they were criminals. I'd allow protests, strikes, etc. Everything except for crime. |

crime being defined as anything against your frame of thought. It's not any different from just removing their free will - except in this case, you're letting people be aware of the fact that they're enslaved. |

I would make myself a god with complete control over everything and eliminate negative feelings from the world, also I would make the world into a bunch of flying landmasses that you traveled from/to on giant bugs or airships for the squeamish. I might also make new races depending on how bored I was. = 3 |

Human measures are meaningless if all you want to do is eradicate crime and create a peaceful world. Changing the fundamental human nature is the only ethical way to go about it. Seccy, your means is actually less ethical than directly attacking the cause, because the people know they're being repressed. Having a utopia at the cost of constantly living in fear of the police is no utopia at all; it's a dystopia. And if the police are human, too, committing acts against humanity, you haven't gotten rid of anything. You've just changed it to a slightly different human problem. |

The differance between me and Kira is I a) wouldn't kill people [no death penalty see?, and b) wouldn't go after lazy people or people I didn't like. Also, Kira was a bad guy, whereas I'd be a good guy. |

Maybe it is, but it would be better than the shithole of a world we're in now. Personally, I like the moths. |

Kira was a bad guy? But he got rid of all the criminals. It was a very noble thing to do, don't you think? You want to get rid of everyone you see as a criminal too. Maybe not by killing them, but then, by how? Putting them in jail? How is that so different? "Bad" people go to jail and "good" people go free? How is this different from "bad" people die and "good" people are let live? It's still viewing the world as black and white, and makes you no different from kira. The fact you would even view yourself as "good" should be clue enough that there's no way you, as a human, can moderate other humans. "Good" and "evil" are not set constructs. They do not have global identities and in fact vary from individual to individual. Your perfect world would be a perfect world only to you. |

This thread is disappointing. You can change everything and we're here quibbling about dystopias, thought-crime, and "free will". If you're stuck on questions of whether something is acceptable within a given framework and the limits of morality therein when you have the theoretical power to which this thread has expanded, you are working within an unnecessary, pointless hole. THE SOLUTION Alternatively, if we're being boring and the spirit of the topic ultimately leans toward smaller scale, more mundane revisions, a world in which bigotry has been at least functionally extinguished and identity issues are easily addressed on all levels would be nice. As would one in which people always have the time, energy, and motivation necessary to post. |
