Like immediately after that, it's "but she thinks of herself as a girl," and she certainly wears female swimwear in the beach episode, and wears dresses... ofc,wearing female swimwear and dresses is gender expression and not gender identity, but they're still factors. I'd have to rewatch the part where Hibiki (I think it's Hibiki?) says that, but yeah. Well Tsubasa thinks of herself as a sword even though she dresses as a woman, does that mean she's sword-gendered?

This was the first batch, between S2 and S3, so there should be a second batch coming out sooner or later. Hopefully it involves Carol and Elfie and the dolls. Also kek Chrono, speaking and listening are two different skills, so not necessarily... and technically terms/not everyday diction still throws me for a loop. Japanese subtitles would definitely help...

And ofc there's translation software. But still, hearing and understanding in the original language grants a better understanding than subs. If you were raised in japanese culture you'd get an even better understanding but I think that's kind of fluff in the case of a show like symphogear which is about cute girls blowing stuff up.

Symphogear doesn't have too much of an entry barrier culturally, apart from the closeness/intimacy of female friendships and maybe the willingness to invade personal space. But it's pushed a bit past what appears to be the norm in Symphogear anyway Symphogear also has a lot of technobabble in it, so that can be hard to get, but that's not a cultural thing per se

It's a GX continuation, but changes a detail in canon that in episode 13, Carol and Elfnein survive separately, Carol with amnesia. Instead of fusing, it saves Elfnein's life, and Carol's too much of a liability to let free into the world even if she doesn't have her memories, so they keep her restricted in the new SONG headquarters Just giving Carol a proper redemption arc and a satisfying ending, because she was written really weakly in the show imo, and letting Elfnein be happy and recover from being bullied by an angry toddler her whole life. It's at 20k words right now, and at this rate will be finished at about 80k. I'll probably pick it back up come January (real life issues and all) There's been some art posted from DL and angeban (here) (here) (here) (some of these related), and I posted a fluffy test scene here and also a sneak peek from the first draft.

But Lynx pointed out that "elf" means 11 and "nein" means "no," so "11 no," or maybe "scrapped 11." So Elfnein might either be the 9th or 11th, if her name is a clue and if it's depending on either the sound or the meaning. If they were thinking about either. >.> But, that also brings up some questions. Carol, IIRC, claims to have lived for centuries. Do her clones age? Does she live through their lives and then reincarnate as a girl again? Do they not age but just... stop working after a certain period of time? How does Carol instantly transfer her memories after dying to her new body? Instead of whatever was there when the body was created. Maybe it takes time to make? More importantly... if Elfnein is a clone with Carol's memories, why is she not herself just another Carol? Why is her personality different? Did Carol maybe make Elfnein specifically with all her optimism and hope for the future, a side of herself she was repressing and thought she had to get rid of? Or did Elfie grow on her own? I think that's a cute idea, Lynx! You should definitely work on it, and totally post some more. The fanart is adooorable. I love the idea of Carol with a cat. And Elfie as the leading, dominant one in the relationship seems really interesting, since even though she's so kind, since she has the knowledge of what really happened, that puts her in a bit of a position of power over Carol. And it would be interesting to see how she uses that. also omg that second excerpt, I knew it, selfcest is bestcest fans self I definitely agree that Carol was mishandled and could have been sooo great. My own pet rewrite for GX Rather than just take apart the world for "muh knowledge," Carol taking apart the world allows her to understand it, and then rebuild it in an ideal state - complete with all the information that was lost / aka people that have died. So this would tie in with the "Apocalypse of All-Creation" thing from ep 1, since hand-in-hand with the destruction of the world comes the revival of all the dead. Most importantly for Carol, it would allow her to bring back her beloved father and be happy with him again. And for the cast, they would all be faced with some really tough decisions. Do they fight to stop Carol and protect the world? Or do they let themselves be tempted by the possibility she offers? Hibiki, with all the concert victims alive, and her no longer with survivor's guilt. Tsubasa, with Kanade back. Chris, with her parents back. Maria/Kirika/Shirabe, with either their parents or Nastassja back. The show actually ended up doing this a bit for Maria and co., but I think the fact that it was an illusion makes it less compelling than it could have been. It's only a symbolic "face the past" thing, rather than a literal "can you bury your past"? And maybe in the climax, the ghosts start to rise, and the characters have to directly confront their fallen loved ones, and tell them "no." Or maybe the ghosts themselves have to tell them "no, please stop Carol, it won't work." But ofc I just love selfish savior complexes accompanied by world-changing rituals 8D

I might end up posting some other excerpts here or on tumblr as I write more, if there's interest //// The Michat was scrapped in the final outline, it'd add too much to not make it pointless, but I'm gonna write omakes and stuff so there'll be some kitty shenanigans afterwards Elfnein is a precious child who isn't sure how to handle things here. In the show right before she leaves the Chateau, she flinches just when Carol raises her voice, so she's probably scared of her. So she has to adjust to seeing this soft moe baby who won't leave her side because she's afraid of everything and Elfnein is her only security. I try to be nice to Elf9 in this fic but she gets caught up in Carol's emotional breakage, the poor thing Also that rewrite is interesting omg, they really handled Carol so badly in canon. There were so many better ways to handle it

Deep... into stuff. Deep. Hmm, that does make me wonder how Elfie grew up, in the Chateau and all. Something happened to make her look at all the same memories differently from Carol. GX spoilers Though, we do know that since Elfie was meant to be a spy as well, maybe Carol created her personality to be exactly the kind of vulnerable-but-sweet person who would appeal and integrate into SONG, and thus allow her to put her plan into motion (via Ignite and also spying). Actually that's probably pretty much it. I doubt Carol expected she herself to be swayed/jealous of Elfie being accepted (that's how I took her anger that Elfie was still accepted, even after she was revealed to be a spy), and the life/perspective she has to contrast Carol's. Hmm, how much of Carol's memories DOES Elfie have? Evidently she has a part of her alchemy knowledge, and we know she has the origin, but does she have all the centuries that came between? If not, I think that's a good point for sure, that people weren't meant to live that long.

Putting together a Symphogear Pokemon team because Hinoa is convincing. The only issue is finding the right Pokemon to represent Tsubasa and Maria because everyone else is pretty set in mind. As of the current moment, Tsubasa is a Talonflame and Maria is an Aegislash. Hinoa wants Tsubasa to be an Aegislash because muh sord but I'm not really feeling that. Honestly, I'm fine with Talonflame because muh wings of fire but if there's any better suggestions somewhere I'm fine with changing it up. Feel free to shoot me suggestions, even for the others, though. It's not like more ideas are a bad thing for this. Oh, and also feel free to suggest suitable Pokemon for the non-Gear characters. I have Ogawa already (Greninja, what else), but everyone else is a grand shrug.
