It's a funny thing, but I'm more likely to tolerate something that's more objectively bad if it still somehow amuses or holds my interest in some compelling respect. Like, I watched Occult Academy a while back, and it was definitely a mediocre show. But there were some aspects of the plot and some of the character dynamics that I enjoyed seeing unfold and/or thinking critically about, and that was enough to get me to finish the series. (Also, it was only 13 episodes.)

That fits Saber pretty well. I know you're not the person with the most time, but for F/Z's case I'd say you should probably at least give it to the fifth episode, since that's when the first battle wraps up (and thus by then you can have a general feel for things).

We're doing an anime swap with those series. 8D And I definitely want to like Fate/Zero. I'm not trying to set myself up to hate it. It just hasn't hooked me so far either time I've tried to watch it. So far it reminds me of Game of Thrones, only anime.

It's more the fact that all of the characters seem to be unlikable people whom I probably wouldn't care if they died, but I guess at least one or two might turn out to be sympathetic, maybe. Maybe Sabre? And I liked beefcake guy, kind of, and wimpy bug guy doesn't seem completely bad either.

Some of them turn out to be less selfish bastards than they appear, although (imo) that doesn't really increase their likeability any. Also I'm assuming Beefcake Guy is Rider and Wimpy Bug Guy is Waver. In which case yeah, they're pretty much the only team that doesn't contain at least one asshole.
