Going to agree with you and then say that Imo, the opening animation for season 2 promised more of what I'd like to see: Some kick-ass battles with high stakes. It looked very, very much like the opening was rearing up to have the entire city of Vale come under assault and fire, with Junior joining up with Torchwick and Cinder and maybe Beacon itself taking some serious damage. It also looked like Cardin would end up being betraying everyone. That would have made for a very compelling second season.

Notable exception to when Ruby was taken near the end, without Crescent Rose. I thought that was legitimately interesting, but it resolved itself far too quickly and simply to have any real tension.

It's also annoying how one-sided fights can get, notably Yang vs Neopolitan. We have Ruby at least holding off against Cinder and Blake destroying Torchwick, but this random villain completely outpaces Yang with everything? Not a good tension builder, at all. If it had been Cinder, now, that would have been great - a display of power from a well-known, but secretive, villain that establishes just how much more powerful she is over the protagonists, and sets her up as out of their league.

It also feels like Neopolitan Icecream only managed to cream Yang that hard to give Ms. Mom a chance to come rescue her. Also, really wishing they had kept up Ruby's "HOLY SHIT I CAN'T DO ANYTHING" for much longer than they had, so agreeing with you there.

I figured the ~15 min episode thing was just for the first episode, but this one has around that much length as well, so that's good news. hopefully the rest will be the same.

Great jokes. The entire set up and visual representation of the "aw nuts" joke was very well done. Also, hearing Gavin Free voice someone, albeit briefly, was fun as well.
I think the best part of this episode by far was the music during the 2nd fight.

Well that was a fun episode. Winter was pretty much exactly what I'd expect Weise's older sister to be, but Crow was a bit more interesting than what I was expecting. I mean, I figured he'd have an unconventional nature, but not to the point of that much conflict with his allies. And that's fine. I'm not sure exactly what was going on with his sword right before he decided to stop mid-fight; maybe turning into a scythe (since he made Ruby's) ? And I gotta say, seeing Ruby suddenly become that happy around him was fun to see.

Yeah, I agree, it was a fun episode. And yeah, I figure he was changing it; merc recognised it as a scythe, not a sword, so clearly he wasn't using it in its preferred form, meaning we'll get an -actual- skills display soon. This, I think, was more about Winter; showing that Weiss is not the only family member with some fighting cred in the Schnee family.

I was actually getting ready to probably drop it until Qrow showed up. Holy shit, what a hero. I'll keep watching just for him.

The Pyra/Seasons thing was interesting, but I reeeeeally wish that they had managed to slip that random fairy tail into the show a lot sooner than 2 minutes before it became relevant. I feel like that kind of last-second-background just cheapens its significance.


Anyways, the Yang fight was amazing. Loved every second of it. And holy crap, I was not expecting that twist ending. I wonder if he legitimately lost and is a sore loser, or if he lost on purpose and it was all part of the plan. This show's finally gotten me highly anticipating the next episodes to see how that pans out.

IKTF re: Oum choreography. But at the same time I can defs tell what's in there is lining up with some of his earlier work, so I have hopes that they'll both be watching his stuff. I think the big thing is how hesitant they are to really go over the top.
