Man all of you people listing "games I don't like" instead of "games that had actually retaged or outright unwinnable mechanics" need to play more terrible games
You have never done Legaia 2's sewer dungeon have you.

... That premise actually sounds pretty cool. What a shame.

Oh, definitely. I think the wasted potential of the premise is a big reason why it has a cult fanbase.

Also, nicely as I can say this, you two kinda do the same thing as everyone else at times. But then so do I. (´・ω・)つ
Peo pls

FFIII didn't let you buy Phoenix Downs. You thus had a finite amount of times you could let a party member die in this game. It gets double negative points for it's flaws considering it had a remake (not a port, a remake), which, you know, should've fixed those flaws.

MMBN4 requires multiple playthroughs to get all the forms. The forms are the game's way of implementing Mega Manning. You need to do the entire game more than once to do what you bought it for. The rest of the game (plot, chip selection, etc) wasn't even that good either.

Both of those games have more issues than that, but those are the most obvious glaring ones.

Meanwhile ToS2 is perfectly playable and all of the non-plot issues are minor, if still stupid. It's nowhere near being "the game freezes at this point and there's nothing you can do about it" like some of those LotR games.

If every other RPG that somebody played besides ToS2/KH/whatever other perfectly playable games people said really were better, then I guess those games technically do count as "the worst you've ever played", but it's still weird to see them as "worst ever", which is how people are treating them.

I will defend my Devil Survivor 2 claim by saying the visuals weren't all that good. The visual experience is part of what makes a game good, just as much as game mechanics imo. The enemies were lackluster and felt like they were from a shitty Yugioh GBA game I had with too much black used to make shadows. There was nothing interesting about them- they had no real stories behind them, no theme, the designs and choices of enemies felt so random. I felt no reason to be afraid of them or invested in them at all. They were just ugly things that were there.

Character designs were pretty nice actually, but I didn't like the style. That's just preference though. At first, the fact that everything was blue was kind of annoying, but looking back it's not so bad. Lemon-shaped balloon boobs are kinda lame though.

The battles were challenging and that was nice, but it took so long to break away from using the same three spells with all your characters.

edit: so it's the worst rpg by my own standards that I've played but probably not for reel lyfe

Death comes to all of those who oppose me.

It's a tie between Final Fantasy 13, and Dragon Age 2.

topic title: "Worst RPG You've Ever Played, Go"

so yes, I believe that's why people including me are listing normally playable games that they just didn't like.

I really don't know how people forgot that lol. but it is still true to say that some of us really haven't played any completely godawful games.

I think also, 'worst' is something that people perceive as differently. I may not like Sonic 06, but someone out there probably will. I haven't really played any RPGs with terrible systems, or if I did, I enjoyed the game despite it's flaws (FF3 and Skies of Arcadia). I have limited funds/time to spend on playing godawful games.

I was actually quite reluctant to say ToS2, because certain folks here jump on you for not liking it/I know it's not that bad a game in it's mechanics compared to what else is out there. The battle system is neat, but hampered by what I personally found to be a sharp difficulty increase. And of all the Wii games that should have used the classic controller, this one is the most deserving. I didn't like the nunchuck set up very much, although I could still see the battle system as good despite that.

The rest of my issues are just plot/characters. Richter was too dark mentory/edgy/angsty for my liking.

ToS2 spoilers

and Marta belongs to Neko Sugar Girls. And I know 'but that's minor' and I can see why people say that, but RPGs are driven by their plot and characters. If they aren't that great, it just brings everything down and makes the game feel a chore to get through. Like going out to play sports, but you have to do the washing up every five minutes in-between. What am I playing for? A great battle system? I could go play other RPGs that have that and good characters/story. At least, that's how I felt.

Alice was pretty boss though. And I hope this doesn't become a ToS2 thread if you want to pick at my comments then please just PM/Skype me so the topic isn't weighed down. ;;

Also, as a side note, I played FF3 as a kid. I bet you anything that if I played it now, I'd despise it because I was a lot more tolerant of bad stuff back in those days. But I'm not gonna say it's the worst without a proper re-evaluation.

I honestly can't think of any RPG I've played that I would consider bad. Maybe Xenosaga 2, but I don't know if I would even call that game bad. It's definitely closer than any other RPG though.

Wheey! I've became a human being!! I am very handsam!

You can't bring up Hoshi wo Miru Hito (Stargazer) without mentioning Super Monkey Daibouken which is even worse

I emulated it, planning to play it for about 15 minutes to see how bad it really was. Stopped within two minutes and deleted it from my hard drive.

I actually hadn't heard of Super Monkey Daibouken until you mentioned it. Guess I should read through hardcoregaming101's weekly kusoge more often.

After reading about it and watching some video of it, it seems like a confusing bore. :T

Yeah the graphics for that game were not great (but hey, it's a DS game, what do you expect), and I can understand subjectively disliking certain elements of it (god that game has some weird-ass boob physics going on in its art). In terms of gameplay and plot, though, I felt it more than made up for its visual failings.
