Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

Basically, half the stuff posted there now doesn't even need to be hidden, and there are plenty of topics made in GD that would fit a more serious subforum but no one posts them in SSB because they know a lot of the Temple won't see them, so let's just open things up and then Vačscent can have a place to spam environmental topics to his heart's content, among other things.

Edit: And all of the topics about personal issues can either stay there or go to the Temple of Kraden forum, which is hidden so that all members, but only members, can see it.

Edit two: I like Bowse's idea better, let's just get rid of SSB and merge with GD.

Edit three: I added a poll.

Sound the horn and call the cry: "How many of them can we make die?"

I agree that there's a problem there, but wouldn't it make more sense to actually enforce SSB's "only serious topics" policy?

No.

Edit: If you open it you might as well merge it with GD.

I'm fine with merging it with GD. =P That's long been my preference, but let's see what others say.

I think currently, with the opt-in setting there's some fear that the topics in SSB are far worse/more polarizing than they actually are. And similarly, a lot of people aren't even aware of SSB's existence (I know HJ had that problem), so...

But, I want to see what others think. ^^;

SSB seems like it was made to keep a more mature tone (but heck I've seen spam in there before >_>) so may as well merge it, indeed. Sounds like a good idea.

Satty, I think your senility is showing again.

Spam might have occurred in SSB from time to time, but overall, it tends to stay very on-topic and generally serious. I don't have any particular issue with merging SSB and GD, but if we do, I would like to see two things done.

1) For any topics that are rather personal in nature, the TC should be PM'd as to what they would like done (moved to GD, moved to CC, or simply deleted).
2) If a serious discussion is wanted on something, tagging the topic with SSB on GD should bestow the same rights topics originally had on SSB: relative topicality, no spam, etc. The board's original purpose is still good to keep, but a separate board and opt-in are rather unnecessary.

Merge them, I agree.

Regardless of what happens with SSB, I will continue pushing for a "green" forum. I have a list of compelling reasons that I will address in a separate topic.

Just enforce the serious rule, jfc. We have the forum for a reason - the root of which still exists. Some people don't want to be involved in ssb threads. The problem we have NOW is that most ash threads belong in gd...which just means people are making threads in the wrong forum.

This discussion just makes me wonder what happened to Sunny.

(I'd object, but given that people do put serious topics in GD anyway for the express purpose of everyone seeing them, and that hasn't caused any problems that I know of, I suppose the merge would be harmless enough)

As Poui said, putting serious topics in GD hasn't hurt anything before. Why would it now? And if people cause trouble or something, that's what the staff is for.

The fact that SSB was a closed forum was good for me because it gave me that extra layer of resistance I needed to restrain from making controversial (read: antagonistic) posts in certain topics.

HJ addressed the concerns I had. I don't have any particular issue with merging the forums, but if we do that would still require distinctions to be made for the topics that would be subject to the current SSB rules, because that distinction exists for a reason. Respect, maturity and other such traits should, and usually are, a given on all the forums, but when it comes to the topics that are in SSB it doesn't hurt to have a reminder.

I would, however, like to note that I don't favor an approach that would...well, coddle the creators of the personal topics. I can understand the need for sensitivity and a lack of harsh criticism or judgement in those topics, but as it currently stands, SSB is still more or less a public forum, accessible by anyone who requests it. Any personal topics that have been posted in it were created, I assume, with the OP's knowledge of that fact. So any topics they wouldn't be okay being opened to the general public (which they pretty much are anyway) might not have had a place in SSB in the first place. Just my thoughts.

Why not just apply SSB's rules to any serious/personal topics in GD? If that makes sense.

Haha, Hell.

Well, instead of a distinction between types of topics, I think it would be nice if people could use discretion and just not fart around in topics obviously created for more than just silly chatter. But I suppose a sort of topic title tagging could work: "Global warming [SSB]"

Also, I mentioned specifically tagging topics as SSB in the title/subtitle because we all know how much we love to ride a train through a topic and derail the [radio edit] out of it. Sometimes it isn't always obvious whether something is serious or not if it was in GD (like the feminism topic).
