Well, Madoka does have a manga, so it would count in this discussion. The manga was just an adaption of the anime instead of the other way around. ~~Your point still stands, though.~~

The ones where they just fail even with manga source material are just...uch.

I more watch anime than read manga, but that's because I don't like reading on screens very much, as well as the fact that I read novels and poetry more than anything else. What I usually do is watch an anime series up to whatever exists, then delve into the manga, provided there is one. I also tend to read whatever PK chucks my way.
