Okay, so after postponing purchasing the game for a few days because of exam reasons, and then going out and buying a physical copy of the game because I had a gift voucher I wanted to spend and then having zero desire to actually install and play it, I finally tried out a few missions tonight. I'm not objecting to the narrative itself so far, but the holy crap the dialogue is awful. The analogue would be a book that tells an interesting story but was written by someone who had learned everything he knew about language by watching Tom Cruise movies. I think the difference between SC/BW and SC2, in terms of story, thus far can be summed up as this: StarCraft I was about Raynor and Kerrigan - StarCraft II is about Jim and Sarah. And I can't get Caprica Six out of my head. Every time she opens her mouth. No screen or voice performance has ever bugged me this much - usually when you see actors you know from one text play a different character in a different text, it doesn't matter, but this is actually completely ruining the characterisation for me. What do. |

tbh they should have ditched the entire love story thing and have kerrigan/zeratul come out and say "hey man this almighty dude is gonna destroy the universe" and then have all the characters scheme and plot how to best defeat him and come out with the best possible scenario. E.g. Raynor finds out Tychus was sent by Mengsk, and grudgingly strikes a deal with him: let his friend out of the suit and they'll both kill Kerrigan. Kerrigan meanwhile finds of the prophecy from Zeratul and agrees to help vs the hybrids, but doesn't mind if some of her swarm takes some hybrids to "examine". Zeratul goes to Raynor and the toss, Raynor believes him because why not, toss aren't so trusting. And go from there. |

Yeah, the love story hasn't brought anything good to SC2 yet, in my opinion. Kerrigan makes me cringe when it comes to Raynor, and Raynor was much cooler in Brood War when he knew Kerrigan was beyond redemption. The plot was able to expand and include a lot more when it wasn't mainly focused on those two. And when everybody was focused on a war, rather than putting all their attention into killing or saving another character, the game universe was much more fun to follow. EDIT: Added you Hell. |

The dialogue is the story's biggest problem. It's just ridiculous and cheesy most of the time. Although I will say that Raynor and Kerrigan did have something going even in SC1/Brood War. Remember when she was first infested? She spared Raynor. She also, as far as I can remember, never directly attacks him. She's always had a soft spot for him. |

Well, again, in the lore, Kerrigan took lovers as the Queen of Blades (Ethan, anyone?), so she may have had a soft spot for Raynor but there's no evidence that it was more than platonic. I was trying to read the whole thing as "it's just friendship, it's just friendship, he's just using 'darlin' as an affectionate term" up until the kiss (in which there is NO chemistry, btw) ... and now I'm just willfully ignoring it. Take a lesson from Joss Whedon, Blizzard: romance doesn't make for stronger emotional investment, it's just a different kind of emotional investment, and when it's forced, it's incredibly painful to watch. |

Anybody else having difficulty with the Speed Bump achievement (The Reckoning mastery)? I'm not giving in and looking up strategies for it, but man... First achievement that might make me cave in to do so. |

Spoiler: click to toggle That said, still have yet to play the game so I can't really comment personally. But by all accounts, the major reason I would want to play it sounds to be horribly lacking, and I just don't get into the multiplayer aspect frequently enough anymore. I'll skip it until it's cheaper or something. |

Yeah, okay, the story isn't without its redeeming (!) moments. And holy heck, the art and the cutscenes are beautiful (no less than we would expect from Blizzard). But - and I'll spoiler this if anyone feels it's necessary, though I'll speak in generalisations - the fact that the main plot has all the ultimate impact that one might expect of a subplot is kind of dumb: "And now that this has been resolved, let us return to the actual obstacle in our paths, which this whole conflict has had nothing whatsoever to do with". |

Well this thread pretty much has been y'alls nitpicking about the shit you didn't like about it. I just sit back and play the damn game, and I enjoyed it just fine. Negative too much? Probably, but trying to have a positive outlook on shit while being surrounded by a mass of negativity such as the people in this thread certainly doesn't help. |
