I plan on beating the campaign first thing, so I'll let you know if this game handled the story any better. I was disappointed with the plot in WoL, too. However, I read that they've recognized some of the mistakes they made with the story in the first game and took steps to make it better this time around. We'll see, though. Money is a good reason to hold off, though. Hopefully we'll see you join the Swarm down the road. |

For those of you who haven't seen it, there's a new trailer: As much as I actually adore the full WoL trailer, I feel like the Vengeance HotS trailer is putting too much emphasis on the relationship between Kerrigan and Raynor :/ (Also I can't hear Kerrigan's voice without hearing Caprica Six now. I wish they'd gotten Glynnis Talken Campbell back.) |

Since Walmart is out of stock and I have no feasible way to go to GS before they run out too, I just ordered it off of Amazon. I'll have it in 2 days. EDIT: Nvm, Walmart is in stock after all. Yay. |

So I've finished the campaign, and spent some time with the multiplayer end of the game. Overall, I'm disappointed in the plot. So far Starcraft 2 as a whole just doesn't feel as...epic as Starcraft 1 did in terms of story. And the characters, too. Mengsk, for example, was a great character in SC1 because he wasn't just outright evil. You could see his character's path and understand why he did what he did, even if you wouldn't have done it yourself. But you still could believe that a man would go as far as he did. He felt real. In SC2, though? He reminds me of a Disney villain. Here we have the man who planned the destruction of the Terran confederacy and succeeded in taking control of the sector, and in SC2 everything he says you just shake your head at. Just about every character here is 2D, even moreso than in WoL. Also, the ship parts (the Leviathan) just weren't nearly as fun to see as they were in Wings of Liberty. I suppose that's more of a problem with the Zerg than Blizzard, since you wouldn't expect the Zerg to keep an arcade machine around. Only read after you've finished the campaign. I could go on, but I'll just leave it at that and get to something positive. The gameplay was pretty fun in the campaign, and probably the only great part of the single-player experience. The maps were varied and interesting for the most part, so it's worth playing through the campaign at least once. Regarding multiplayer, I've mostly had time with the new Protoss units, but I've seen everything in action. The new units throw in quite a few new tactics, and I'm sure there's a lot I have yet to see. The most effective ones I've seen so far are economy-crippling tactics using the new Terran Hellbat unit and the new Protoss Oracle ship to wipe out workers in a few seconds. So, if anybody is on the fence on this game... If the plot is the most important part of it to you, don't expect much. You can predict most of what's going to happen. (They use some of the most cliché scenes, plot points, and dialogue...it's almost embarrassing.) But if you're hoping to see some change in the multiplayer matchups and want to try out some new units, I'd say go for it. Joker #1472 // Americas |

I found the plot was decent, slanting to good. Sure, there were some problems with it, but a lot of the weak points are there because this is a game and not a work of literature. As for scope, it's still pretty epic (if anything, perhaps too much so and a little forced), but I appreciate the personal level of Kerrigan's characterization. That said.... The campaign is also on the easy side, because Kerrigan is OP as hell. I like the more RPG-esque feel to it, though, and the variety in mission types. Overall, I enjoyed the story, especially since I don't measure video games with the same ruler as I do literature. Could it have been better? Certainly, but there are few games that couldn't be. Did it leave me yearning for the final part of the trilogy? God yes. Knowing Blizzard it'll be another three years, of course. |

Unfortunately. ;_; Fair points on your view of the plot, too. I'm too critical for my own good, and I tend to compare Starcraft 1 and Starcraft 2 together a lot, which is probably why SC2 has let me down so much. I can agree that you can't measure a game's plot to literature, but my problem is that Blizzard has already done a fantastic job using a game to tell a great story with the first Starcraft. Still, Protoss are my favorite, so the next expansion has a lot of potential in my eyes. And speaking of Protoss... Possible campaign spoilers.

Yeah, Protoss are awesome, so I can't wait for their part either. Kudos to HotS for making me really enjoy the one race I don't normally play, though. Zerg: surprisingly fun here. Spoiler: click to toggle
