You just don't get it, man. Even Donkey Kong games take place on more than one island nowadays. Condensed locations are an affront to us all. A true tragesty.

I suppose this is the unpopular opinions topic, so that "FFV has best gameplay" comment can slide. xP FFX definitely has the best gameplay by far, then possibly FFXII? |

Probably! @FFXIV has the best gameplay I haven't played it personally, so I can't say. FFXII's gameplay is also pretty good, but it can sometimes get tedious with grinding (because the game is haaard). But I think it's a good example of a single-player MMO done well (strong plot, great settings), and so on. |

FFXII is probably my favourite for combat, I loved the customization in it and the overall feel of the combat(even if it's just FF: The single-player MMO).
On that note, I find a lot of games try to go too far in making a "huge, expansive world" instead of giving a smaller area life and vibrance in terms of both world-building and level design. For example, Ys Origins has more varied level design than lots of games that take place on whole countries or even worlds, and the whole game takes place in a tower. Ar Tonelico and King's Field also have a smaller area that the game takes place in, from a standpoint of worldbuilding, it allows them to focus in on things that are relevant to the plot instead of trying to flesh out other things that don't have too much bearing on the story but are there to contribute to the game feeling like it has a large scope. also, Morrowind takes place on a dumb island and has the most interesting setting of the ES games. |

has anyone on here ever heard of the Gothic series? it's german but afaik it got an english translation and voiceover (although I've heard it's pretty shitty compared to the original). the first game takes place in a mining colony and the second one is about triple that size (with addon) but still relatively small when compared to stuff like Skyrim. it's also on one island (except for the very end of the second game but that's another story). (also Gothic 1-3 are awesome games and y'all should learn german and play them in their original glory) |

Gonna take a stab in the dark here and say it's because there's a "lack of variety" or something. Also wasn't Gothic III like a terrible game or something? I only have II, so |

A couple of my RL friends like Gothic(one's German so he might be biased), but I've yet to play it myself. Noticed the first 3 games are on steam for $4 right now, somewhat tempting. |

Except they buffed lancers(and thus DRG) so that their weaponskill comboes don't -have- to hit their direcitonals to move to the next ability in the combo. |

It's not a bad thing by itself but I just wish there was more to explore. I don't like how linear the game is; I guess I was just used to Earthbound's decently expansive cities. Not to mention I didn't find the island itself all that interesting overall. |
