Yeah, once you're done with grinding smithing, gold is much easier to come by. If you don't grind smithing, gold is actually pretty easy to come by. Just play normally, eventually you'll look at your cash and go "I HAVE OVER 60K?!", and just from looting chests and selling crap. |

I started a new character. He is Eirik, the Nude Nord Barbarian. Eirik goes into action with nothing but a knife, various meats, things to cook those meats, lockpicks, and a hefty amount of booze. No armor or clothes. He'll pick up and use the weapons and armor of his fallen opponents, but will sell everything that isn't his knife, meats, etc. after a mission and use the gold to buy meats, etc. No fancy magic, no godmode equipment. Just running in with a knife and scavenging from the dead. |

For a second I thought you had started the Naked Nord challenge, but then you said you used a knife and I was all "aww..." |

Yeah, there's a few differences. One, I use a knife. Two, I don't allow any magic at all. Magic is for the weak. Three, I can raid the bodies of the fallen and use them for that mission and that mission only. |

So due to a particularly nasty bunch of viruses hitting my desktop, we had to completely format that computer. I'm fairly certain that means all my Skyrim save files went with it. Colour me devastated. Still, gives me a chance to go and do it for real this time, focusing on the main story and just powering up the stuff that actually is useful to power up! |

![]() I ONE SHOT EVERYTHING. Also, the interface doesn't seem to be built to deal with 4-digit damage numbers. |

True, that is a dagger, and one that gets no bonuses from smithing perks... And the PC vers... Well, that answers everything. He just cheated. |

lol automatically assuming something you couldn't figure out is cheating, if he wanted to cheat he could do it in much simpler ways. Sorry you haven't explored the game's systems as much as him Every TES game has been completely breakable in one way or another, this is very likely another instance of that. Would make sense, in Morrowind it was through Alchemy, so being able to do it through smithing seems very likely too. |

I'm not saying he cheated, I'm just genuinely wondering how he managed to do that. I thought the Alchemy->Smithing loop capped at a point |

So due to a virus necessitating a reformat of the main gaming PC in my house, all my save files have been cleared. Since I still want to actually finish the main quest for the sake of Backloggery semantics, this will mean I need to start over. I enjoy the game, so I don't mind doing this, but I don't know what to play this time. That's where you guys come in! What do I play this time? |

Should specify more that I'm just asking for race and primary playstyle, since I'll probably end up doing damn near every quest in the game by the end of it anyway. |

You should play a Khajiit pickpocket. His primary means of dispatching opponents should be one of two: reverse-pickpocketing their poison, or taking their own weapon and backstabbing them with it. As for the weapons: All versions of the game have a really weird behaviour. Fortify Restoration potions also apply their multiplier to your equipment enchantments, and also to other fortify restoration potions. So... 0) Buy a crapton of fortify restoration reagents (Fast travel between the alchemy shops; they should all restock by the time you've made one round). 1) Equip fortify alchemy clothing. 2) Create fortify restoration potion. 3) Drink potion. 4) Reequip alchemy clothing (refresh stats) 5) Repeat steps 2-4 until you have insane levels of fortify restoration potion. Do not wait until you get negative integers. Weird things happen then. 6) Go to a grindstone, 7) Drink potion 8) Equip fortify smithing clothes. 9) Upgrade stuff. (Mehrune's Razor and Daedric bows use ebony ingots) This also had the interesting side effect of rocketing me from around alchemy level 55 to 56 with one large potion, and then from 56 to 100 with the next iteration. As a side note, I tried using my crazy-high potionmaking boost to make a fortify enchanting potion. It was at least 8 digits of multiplier. If I drink the potion, the game crashes when I try to select an enchantment. |
