That said, I hate short anime. 12/13 episodes is just too short. Madoka and Haruhi were probably the only 12 episode anime I watched, the rest are between 20-24 or so.
Except, y'know, Gunbuster and Diebuster.

also lol TTGL and Star Driver hate. Shounen's a pretty great genre imo
SHUT UP I DIDN'T ASK YOU

Also those were 6 episodes, and that doesn't happen much, right? So I didn't mention it.

EDIT: Also I technically said that Madoka and Haruhi were the only 12 episode anime I watched, and those aren't 12 episodes, you whore.

I also don't like extremely short Animes either. They feel too rushed to me.

agreed unless it is one of those pointless, little-to-no plot anime in which case the creator can just put the few ideas/gags/whatever he damn wants together and then end it. That way it doesnt seem so forced into being short

With short animes I usually only start to understand things come the final episodes (usually 'cause that's when stuff's revealed), and then it's over without a whole heck of a lot in the way of closure. This's done on purpose, but since I rarely know or feel very much for the characters by the 12-13th ep. mark, I end up forgetting about the series entirely rather than ponder the deep meaningful ponderous things I was supposed to be left with.

"HAHA, LOOK AT HOW SMALL IT IS."

A lot of long anime are filled with fillers (pun?) which sucks. Sometimes fillers are okay, but when they get excessive (as someone I think has already mentioned with whole arcs in Bleach), then yeah no. Most episodes I might watch is 25-30 or so. I may go further is the anime is really but other wise, no.

I tend to read manga more, but even manga can get ridiculous. One of the reasons I don't read/watch Bleach, Naruto, One Piece... the number of chapters/episodes turns me off.

Short animes can be quite well done actually, like the 12-episode lengthed Baccano!. Shorter animes have the drawback of requiring the creator to know exactly what it is they are doing, and with the right director it can be quite a gem actually. Level E, Mononoke, House of Five Leaves, Madoka, and depending on your taste, Angel Beats and True Tear as well.

They are short enough to be checked out, if you are interested. But just know that it's definitely possible to tell an amazing story, or several under 13 episodes.

most of my favorite animes are typically between 20 and 60 episodes long. It's very difficult to make a good one outside that range.

My 2 cents:

Honestly, the length of the Anime depends on how good it is. Escaflowne and Outlaw Star? WAY TOO SHORT. But they ran the course of the Manga they were based upon and there you go. So you live with it.

I don't mind Filler episodes if they're actually good and stick with the original premises (or provide comic relief). But eventually you run out of GOOD Filler ideas and everything goes south. Case in point: Rurouni Kenshin. Could have been fixed by the Anime people having a little patience and waiting for Watsuki to actually finish the damn work, but if there's money to be made in show business, money will be made in show business (especially for something like Rurouni Kenshin which was, and to my knowledge, still is, one of the most loved and popular Mangas in existence), and we've got the entire 3rd section after the Kyoto arc, which was all filler to give Watsuki time to finish the Manga, but the show was axed before he could finish. Honestly for me, Rurouni Kenshin mostly died/ended after the Kyoto arc. The first few episodes after that were OK, but they started to go steadily down hill after that.

So for me, the anime (or show) can be as long as it wants to be as long as it stays interesting.

Angel Beats
(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Personally I believe that Angel Beats would have fared better if it were allowed more episodes.

I'd like to point out that even a 6 episode series like flcl can be awesome however I will agree that a series between 20-50 is ideal to me i can stand if they go longer if they add no filler and don't fall prey to DB-DBZ-DBGT's hernia power-up syndrome where an episode or more can contain basically screaming, change sequences, flash backs and really really long attack setups. Any anime containing long almost pointless in show fillers put me off my lunch not to mention cause a serious case of wanting to throw an angry German fit (video is as follows http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbcctWbC8Q0&feature=player_detailpage ) Also on another note i really need to my act together and learn how to embed playable video jeesh.

FLCL is loved for it's randomness not it's great plot. I don't disagree that it's a good show, but it isn't the most plot friendly.
