So, I'm not gonna blame anything else for this. My computer is a bit awful. Being awful as it is means that it can sometimes struggle with certain tasks certain other peoples' computers might not have such a problem with. Namely, youtube embeds and their audio counterpart. There are a lot of topics I pretty much can't click onto due to these, because my browser will crash and/or lag like the holy ghost smacked it in the teeth. Of course, not all of these topics are blatantly going to contain lots of youtube embeds. For instance, I generally know to avoid Draco's video spam topic and the VGM topics and the like, but not all of them are obviously going to give away the fact that they're going to have such things. Now, I wouldn't be bringing this up, because normally I can just kill the process for my browser and reboot it, but when I misclick onto a bad topic and lag enough that some of my other programs start crashing on me, some of which had some unsaved work, I kinda need to say something. So, basically, what I'm trying to ask, is if it would be possible to make an option that users with slower computers/internet could turn on that would prevent the embeds from loading for said users (turn them into links, maybe?)

I've had the same problem in the past, because my computer is likewise old and slow. Personally I just avoid threads if they get like that, though if something could be done about it that would be cool too. |

There's nothing I've heard of that would change the contents of a post for select users... we'd just have to ask everybody to cut down a bit on using those tags. They crash your computer even if you don't click to load them? :/ |

Yep. At the end of the day, it still has to actually load all those videos, regardless of whether it's actively streaming, it still has to pull from all the locations that the videos are located at, and still has to run the scripts to make it work, etc. etc. techy stuff that I don't understand. Eh, guess I'll just cut down my posts/page if there's no way to fix it, since I don't want other people to have to start restricting their usage of the tags due to my comp being awful. *shrug*

I've gradually shifted down my posts/page as it happens. A couple months ago, I was actively at 90. I'm down to the default 20 now, which I kinda dislike due to being extremely restrictive (and because my net doesn't like when I change pages too much), but eh.

Haha. I'm at 20 now, and it can be a bit of a pain... but I think that's the inevitable danger. Hmm. We can ask people to cut it down, though - a lot of the times, I like using URLs for, in example, RP music. I like seeing what I'm listening to. xD Hopefully that in conjunction with less posts per page will help. ^^; |

I like the 20 posts perp age. If pages are too long, I can't bother to read them. |

How about, unless a topic is specifically dedicated to posting videos or music, users try to use regular links unless there's a very good reason to embed? It will depend on everyone making a conscious effort to cut down on their embedding, but we didn't have it in the past, so it's something that surely we can work together to fix.

Thing is, if a topic isn't specifically about videos or music, there's usually not more than one or two videos posted at a time anyway, which surely doesn't create that much of a problem? I think the rule would work better the other way around. |

Who said anything about a rule? I would hope that we're all charitable enough folks to voluntarily cut down on something if we know it's causing a friend some trouble, without there having to be a whole rule made. Call it a suggestion, if you will.

Nah, I don't think it needs to be a rule at all. I agree with Adna. xD Just something we can do "unofficially." |

Just asking people to use links if they're going to be posting a lot of videos/songs in one thread should be fine, yeah. |

Hmm... yeah we don't want to get rid of hilarious opportunities. I guess just use your best judgement. If there are a few already, then refrain, but if it's just a single video, it can't do too much harm. |

Oh, yeah, I'm not saying get rid of it altogether. The youtube tags are a wonderful thing! It would just be nice if people could use links instead in, for example, "I'm posting all my favorite VGM" topics. |
