What's sad is that I posted this to the SPUF as well and I got unanimously shut down because the axtinguisher is "fine".

It's really frustrating when I make an honest attempt to try and even suggest a sidegrade version of the axtinguisher (sidegrade meaning it's neither better nor worse than the fire axe; just different) and then just get ignored. :/

Soooo can someone explain to me how this happens?

SO I got a domination on someone in TF2, then like 5 seconds after I killed them, they killed me and got a domination. First of all how did they re-spawn then get all the way to the end of the map within 5 seconds, then get a domination on me without getting a revenge kill first?

I'm pretty sure I was in a VAC enabled server.

Sounds like a typical case of the Dead Ringer Spy.

Maybe, but they were playing as a Demoman.

You can disguise as either team, so it was probably an enemy Spy disguised as an enemy Demoman who DRed you.

Guess that makes sense then.

on a side note, anyone got any tips for someone who wants to get better at this game? Usually I do OK but today I was just doing terrible.

This game is so well designed that pretty much every character has their own playstyle (they have multiple playstyles, in fact! See demoknight for the prime example) so any one set of rules on how to play better will be woefully basic. However, I can give some tips.

First, the scout's scattergun is a easy weapon to use, a difficult weapon to master. Getting good at getting consistent chest shots for 70/80 damage while circling and strafing (basically making as many shots count as you can) will actually serve as good training for every other hitscan weapon in the game except the Minigun. You'll find that good scouts are good snipers, and vice versa. Being a good sniper is a good way to examine how other snipers use movement to gain an advantage, but the scout is where you sharpen you acquisition skills with your mouse.

Second, the Flamethrower/derivatives is the only weapon in the game that uses particle physics to decide if you target was hit. This means that you have to account for lag when you use the weapon and heavily lead your targets if their ping is high. Learning how to keep that flame on your enemy will do wonders for heavy.

As a heavy, make sure your priorities are right. Always kill targets closer, with few exceptions. Always prioritize spies first, then sentries, then classes with burst damage. Demo can shoot several stickies before detonating, so he needs to die quickly. Abuse your crouch key when trying to cross open ground watched by a sniper. You are very tanky and can take a full power bodyshot much better than the other classes. Remember that without a medic you are a duck with high velocity weapons and you can very easily die. Keep an eye on the "medic healing you" bar in the middle on the screen, and be very aware of when he takes damage. As soon as he cries out you need to A. Find out why he took damage and B. Deal with the problem if necessary. Nothing kills a medic's enthusiasm to help you like you just ignoring sideswiping attackers. Sometimes a good scout will flank you too quickly to do anything. But usually being aware can save your medic's life more often than not. When out of battle go out of your way to get to health pickups so your medic can stay topped off as much as possible.

Remember that if you're an engineer, you have a different mantra. Your shotgun is a powerful weapon, and it's a lethal weapon, but in this game it's not about out shooting your opponent, it's about getting the advantage and using it to kill them as efficiently as possible. You have many weapons you may not realize at your disposal. You teleporter brings your teammates to you quicker. Back up is the single most dangerous force in the game besides a heavy medic uber. Your dispenser gives you health at a 10/15/20 per second rate; it's excellent support and keeps everybody healthy and filled up. Since it autogenerates ammo over time, you want this up and running as soon as you can on defense. Your sentry. A sentry that stays in one spot is a dead sentry. After a kill move it quickly to another spot so you continually catch people off guard and they can't just demospam it to death. Avoid spots where people can shoot DH rockets and snipe from long range; hallways filled with teammates are ideal, with discreet corners watching a large portion of the map are another. Realize that with the fontier justice if you're about to die IT'S OKAY to destroy the sentry to get your revenge crits now to save your life. You are an augmented force with your stuff, but your stuff is NOTHING without you. You have a build AND a destroy tool for a reason. Stuck behind enemy lines but hidden? Destroy/build a new dispenser and attack from behind!
Realize that the gunslinger not only gives you more health, but changes your playstyle. The minisentry engineer is guerilla warfare engineer. Your minisentry is not about DPS it's about AREA DENIAL. Place it in high spots with maximum range in order to cover huge areas. If it's destroyed, it's cheap and quick to replace. Ambush people with it and combine with shotgun to take down heavies.

Lastly, use the pistol correctly. Don't spam at max speed. Instead, make each shot count and manually fire each. At mid range, 12 shots of 16/17 damage will finish off everyone. I've put away many retreating enemies by switching to the pistol, which has less damage but less damage FALLOFF which is the important part. At close range it's okay, but mid far range it shines.

I'm an engineer, and I agree with what is said here. I personally play offensive engineer as those of you who play against me know. I build a sentry, and then leave it behind in an ambush point, and then pop out at another angle. As the enemy tries to kill the sentry, I can usually pick them off with either the shotgun or pistol.

Unfortunately your tips go on the deaf ears of F2P's that are... well...

Let's just say I didn't give a shit yesterday and I still managed to pull this off. (today I managed to get 3 regular kills as a medic in the same life).

Really though, reading that was great. After playing with Ryu a few times I think I've become a bit better, and this will help moar *-* except i dun like to play as scout/heavy...

Bond, thanks for the tips! I really appreciate it :) Hopefully it'll help me get better at this game. (I'm more of a hands on learner but I'll take anything)

Luc, nice video. lol at the end, wtf why did that Pyro hesitate??
Makes me wish the game ran that smoothly for me. I have a crappy computer and even on the lowest settings the frame rate still sucks quite a bit.

It doesn't actually play that fast, the replay just makes it look so much better.

I have an autoexec.cfg that pretty much makes the game look like utter shit but the framerate most of the time is pretty reasonable. Usually around 30-45 fps, but in real firefights it can get down to like 5fps...

I've been playing for 4 years now, the best I can offer to you is this:

Always keep moving. Especially when you're Medic. Medic is second fastest in the game for a reason.

Unless you're Heavy or Pyro with flamethrower, place your shots carefully. This goes especially so for Scout and Soldier.

Never go solo unless you're Spy. And even then, work in tandem with your team. What's more important, a tele with no exit at the enemy's spawn, or the Heavy that's about to uber and mow your team?

As Soldier, lead them, and aim at their feet. This will launch them into the air, which will make them easy pickings for your shotgun. Let me tell you that I am perfectly capable of airshotting them with my rocket, but I still do this. Be careful, though. Experienced players won't be disoriented by the lack of movement and can and will use this opportunity to kill you.

Also as Soldier, save at least one rocket. You'll never know when you'll need it suddenly during downtime.

Despite the Pyro's namesake his/her airblast is probably his/her greatest tool.

As Sniper, never stay scoped for longer than it takes to fully charge, which iirc is about 5 ish seconds? I dunno. Anyway, when not scoped, move around a little bit and check your back. This, for the most part, will backstab-proof yourself.

I find the best way to not get caught as Spy is to not be seen at all.

Yeah, other things you'll pick up by yourself as you go or will be for a certain situation.

I can post videos of my gameplay and explain what I'm going and more importantly WHY I'm doing it if you want.

Here's an example of what it would be like.

This is a little bit of offensive engineering. Sorry about the theatrical camera usage; if you want me to post a video from first person only, just let me know and I'll remaster the original footage.

Important things of note:

Our team is cleaning up, but we haven't won yet. Everybody's scrambling to kill and they're ignoring the point; there's also more reds spawning and a few angry ones in the tunnel on the left.

The first thing I do when I get to the point sector is I place my minisentry right at the top of the stairs. It's there because it has a clear view of the point, which is my ultimate objective, and is towards blu spawn so people will have a difficult time blowing it up. Your shotgun can heckle at midrange and is lethal point blank, so I immediately take advantage of the hiatus and kill a spy. Notice that I stay crouch to minimize my visual impact; learning how to kill while not drawing attention is extremely important.

That medic almost killed me; melee weapons have a 15% chance minimum to crit, so I probably should have died.
Note that after that I stay right next to the wall underneath their spawn; this means that most reds would just jump those boxes up there and ignore me being discreet.

Sentry was destroyed so I built another.

Two threats in front of me on the other side of the point. I need to cap the point but I don't want to get close so I finish them off with the pisol because I know they've been taking damage. They have to stay back there and be ineffective because they can't fight off me and my sentry in their weakened state, so it's an uneventful 2 kills. Then I cap.

If your team pushes and the cap is unprotected by an attentive enemy, don't hesitate to cap yourself, even as an engineer or a sniper or spy. A spy can easily get behind the remnants of the defense that are standing on the point, stab them, and then cap. Also realize that as a pyro you don't have to kill them to win; if you're trying to cap a point and nearly there, airblast enemies off the point so you can finish capping, don't worry about killing them. You can do that during humiliation.

Just let me know about a specific class/playstyle nuance and I'll get a video and explanation up for you.

tbh as a Sniper you shouldn't really be going full-charge on scope much anyway unless it's the beginning of the round, or you're readying yourself to insta-kill a Heavy when he comes out of uber. Most of the time if you're working with your team, the enemy will either be already hurt and just die from the shot anyway, or they will die soon after the shot thanks to your teammates.

Unless you're using that one rifle that gets a faster charge each time you headshot, though I don't know how useful that actually is

The bazaar is a good weapon design
but

TF2's engine isn't suited for it. The game's not consistent enough with it's registering for a weapon dependent on consistency to be really useful.

To explain, aimbot programs still miss headshots because the game's not precise enough to register everytime, so a weapon designed for precision can't really be used effectively in a relatively unprecise game. I think it needs a big buff to account for it, but that's just my opinion.
