By and large, they've succeeded markedly in making songs that aren't completely cringe-worthy. The only one I really disliked was Rarity's song, and that was in Season 1 while she was making dresses for the other ponies. I thought the Cutie Mark Crusaders' song was tastefully brief, and used interjected spoken lines to great effect.
