Temple of Kraden News: Welcome to the Temple of Kraden! ------ All worshipers may enter the Most Holy Place in single file, reflecting on the bountiful blessing Kraden hath provided unto him or herself since their last visit. Head coverings are not necessary, as true penitence and humility are found within. The Priests and Priestesses of Kraden endeavor to remind all that fresh orange juice is heavily preferred; only whores use frozen.
Greetings, heathen. Perhaps some fortuitous blessing of Kraden's grace hath led you to our humble Temple, or perhaps you are simply curious about this strange and wonderful cult. Should you be willing - and dare to hope - to achieve enlightenment, the door opens before you. Lo! Leave your old life behind! For once you step through, you become something more than just yourself.

You become a Kradenette.

Are you willing to make the rapturous plunge? Do you have what it takes?

I'd rather be outside.

Any other readers here?

I read it for the history and culture jokes, naturally. I also read it because it's remarkably good at being neutral yet also honest.

I love reading it. Haven't seen Philippines or his Sister yet, but they're supposed to be upcoming characters. XD

Oh God WHAT

Also Adna, if you like this, I think the one anime you might like is Hetalia. It's full of history and cultural jokes, and is done in a very similar style.

SatW is a great comic. Unfortunately, she hasn't been inspired to update it recently. It's been compared to Hetalia quite often, only her characters are less gay. She deals with countries that Hetalia hasn't really mentioned much.
That said, watch/read Hetalia. It is hilarious.

I'm not that big on Anime, but I can appreciate Hetalia from what I've seen of it on youtube. I need to watch an actual episode some time.

Actual episodes are around five minutes long, probably shorter cause intro and preview segments. It is on dvd, and on various internets. I think it's one of the few anime where I prefer the english dub over the original Japanese.

Wheey! I've became a human being!! I am very handsam!

So is this pretty much Polandball but with human-ish characters instead of balls and less broken English? Because I love Polandball.

From what I understand, Hetalia is kind of like this except it plays the gay up for drama instead of comedy. And has a fandom even less sane than Homestuck's.

Really? It was pretty comedy whenever I saw it. <_< But then, I tend to like my humour as stuff that goes over-the-top but tongue-in-cheek passes itself off as serious.

I could be paying too much attention to the fandom in that respect. All I ever seem to hear about is how kawaii uguu~ Holy Roman Empire is and whether America should pee in Canada's butt.

Yeah, that's just fandom. And really, most fandoms are stupid. Generally - GS excepted because I'm biased - if it's not portrayed in the canon, it's done so for a reason. Unless you're spinning a massively original plot that really informs and contributes to somebody's understanding of the canon and/or characters... I didn't much see the point in fluffy romance/action fics. And if you're writing the epicer kind well, you might as well be doing original work. <_<

But that's a whole other rant. :P

EDIT: but yeah, I saw this even applies for SatW

Hetalia fandom scares me. So, so much. The series looks decent, but not like something I'd be super interested in. But it does have pretty art at times.

It's INCOMPREHENSIBLE. I tried watching it because of that. I got three episodes in before I realized I was three episodes in and I had no [radio edit]ing idea what was happening.

Hetalia was originally a comic, which was much more graphic than the anime. They depicted wars and battles in innuendo. The hawter the encounter, the more fierce the battle. This is probably why the fandom can be so depraved/scary.
That said, holy crap Holy Roman Empire is adorable. There was this one guy cosplaying him at Sakuracon and he was the cutest little thing ever.
Also, America was one of the kings in cosplay chess. Britain was one of the other pieces, I forgot which, but he got drunk partway through.
