Garuda did suck but he's got nothing on Hein. Bosses that are able to shift their weakness/absorbed elements at will and without announcing the new element changes does not work well -at all- in a turn-based game.

But still, none of that comes even close to the awfulness of the endgame.
Scholar. Did you use it? It's like one of their two uses in the game.

I hold that anyone who didn't enjoy FFIII got their ass kicked by it and wept silently.

Though, really, even if it was shit it'd still be better than FFXI, HEY-O!

Uh of course I used a Scholar. What do you take me for, a dumbass? That's why I mentioned the whole turn-based thing there--let's say you use your Scholar to find out what element he's weak to at the moment. Since the game is turn-based you cannot react to this information until the next turn, by which point he may have changed his barrier again and you're back to square one. Or even worse, on the next turn you queue up some attacks of that element, but he switches his barrier on that turn before any of the attacks are performed and they all end up healing him instead.

Hein is still a cakewalk compared to Garuda.

Also at least I understand KitN. I just don't like it at all.

do eet, I hear more FFIII hate than FFII hate anyway.

Never played either, though the only issues I've heard are the weird-ass leveling system and difficulty, respectively.

EDIT: Squee, have I ever told you you're my hero?

I found FFIII okay, but the mass grinding required + lack of Phoenix Downs really hurts the game, and I've still yet to beat it because of that damn last dungeon. :argh:

I think Raven has a point there as well. Beneath all the updates, you could still sense the NES game behind it all, and so it didn't feel as new as it could have done. Nothing feels like it stands out much, save the Job System, and that was only because I'd barely played FF before this game.

Mastered Monk rush.

That is all.

If I'm honest, it wasn't even really the difficulty of III that irked me, but how blah it felt. I'm all for a challenge in RPGs, but the game itself just didn't click.

The problem with FF3 is that the remake gutted the battle system pretty badly. You used to be able to fight three rows of enemies, meaning it's a pretty good idea to get someone on your team who can area spam - usually mages or summoners. That got NERFED TO HELL because of the one-row-only status of enemies, now, so there's no reason to not be physical unless you need a healer. Ninja, Black Belt, Dark Knight, and Oracle is all you need, maybe Sage if you wanna mix it up with some offensive spells. However, you're usually better off just spamming physical blows and using buffs like haste with healing as needed.

The remake really broke all the balance the game actually originally had as a result. It's such a shame. I'd love to have a proper port, you know? Without all the crap they messed up in the remake...

Bosses were also limited to only one attack per turn, right? The video I saw of the Cloud of Darkness fight from the original had it just doing one thing per turn. (Which was the same exact attack over and over every turn, btw) That is where most of the imbalance comes from, I think. When bosses get two, three, FIVE attacks per turn they can knock one or two people out in one turn literally no matter what you do if they just focus on those characters with their attacks.
